Default Cleaning Carbon Residue on Exhaust Tips

I have B&B PRT oval tips on my C5 that need to be cleaned. What is the best way to remove the caron residue on the inside to make them sparkle again?

Thanks...

Mothers polish will get them looking like new.

Takes a little rubbing, but it will leave a remarkable finish.

Ed "Pipedreams" has a great product and he's a forum sponsor. You can find him on the left side of the sponsored ads (just look to to your left), 7 or 8 from the bottom. The product he sells comes with everything you need for a great, longlasting shine that's easy to maintain!

On my Borla quad stingers that are stainless I use Mother's metal polish and a mini-powerball. I attach it to my 18V cordless drill and it works wonders. I use some blue painters tape and newspaper and tape off the read fascia to protect it from any sling.

For clean up, I fill a small bucket with hot water and Dawn dish soap. I run the mini powerball in it and squeeze it out a few times and it removes all the carbon.

I've been curious for some time at what exactly is different between the pipedreams tip cleaning setup and a simple mothers polish and powerball?

I used a rag soaked in minieral spirits to get the initial carbon off, so that I didn't gunk up my mini-powerball. Then when it was fairly clean from the mineral spirits (paint thinner), I used mothers metal polish. Good setup. Too bad the Z06 titanium tips don't shine quite as much as some others, but they sure improved.

Mothers Powerball Mini and a good polish like Simichrome. Works wonders and no need to chase down felt pads and mushroom polishing heads for your drill.

I have been using Eagle One Never Dull for years. Comes in a silver and black can. Makes the tips look brand new.

Thanks guys....I used the mineral spirit idea for the initial clean and it worked great. Purchased the mothers metal polish, but I need to find a mini-powerball. Napa was out when I visited yesterday. So far, applying by hand has improved it, but I am guessing the mini-powerball will work much better.

I purchased my mini-powerball at Wal-mart for around 18 dollars if memory serves me correctly.

You should also check out forum sponsor Autogeeks site as I believe they stock them and offer a forum discount.

You have to really keep on top of the carbon residue.
I wipe them down after every trip and coat them with some Zaino Z-5 maybe once a month.
Works like a charm!

I never thought of putting any sort of coating on the inside but it makes sense. Do you think a layer of turtle wax would work (its what I have at the moment) as long as it was cleaned out once a week?
