Default exhaust soot on the back of the car

What works to remove the soot from the paint on the back of the car? To top it off, its a white car.

Claying will work, an all in one product like Z-AIO, or a paint cleanser/swirl remover product.

93 ragtop,

I would wash and dry the vehicle first, then would try a clay bar to remove any heavy soot. Follow with a good polish to help clean the paint and then apply a nice wax/sealant to protect the finish as much as possible.

Thanks and let us know how you make out !

I get this sometimes on the silver stripes on my Viper.

Zaino Z-AIO works perfect for this. And as an added bonus once you apply the Zaino it will then just wash right off.

I have used ZAIO after washing. It has chemical cleaners in it. It will work by hand as well. It will also protect so that in the future it should be easier to get the soot off.

Do you mean like this? I tried Megs paint cleaner, Menzerna FP II and finally settled on using IP and cleaning by hand. It was that bad.

If the spots are light some carwash soap should remove them. If they're really baked on, I've had good results with Goo-gone and WD-40.

Since I've started using Zaino, they easily wash off.

Thanks for all the response. I tried a little wd-40 and it does not seem to do anything. I then tried a small amount of the white polishing compound and that does seem to break it down.
In the past I have used the Zaino products. z-1, 2, 5 I still have. Its been a few years and I didnt realize they had come out with the new products.
Again, thanks for everyones help!!

Might try a product called Amazing Roll-Off. You will see it is paint safe and a very effective cleaner from wheels, to wheelwells, and the like. Also highly regarded in the boating industry.

i have this problem all the time. Weekly washings will keep this down to a minimum. easiest way to get rid of them for me was using a clay bar.

Just as a side note...If you're getting exhaust soot out your exhaust, your car is probably running too rich and something needs to be corrected. The timing on the '82 above was 3* late. I can't wait to see what the O2 sensor looks like.
