Default Armor All Removal

A friend just called me in a panic, her mom put ARMOR ALL all over her C6 dash. Needless to say, it sounds like it came out horrible -- shiny and greasy.

How can she remove it -- a mild mixture of dish soap (Dawn?) and warm water? I thought I saw something about this here about six months ago, but a thread search didn't turn up any leads.

Also, are there any decent products for cleaning and protecting the dash/plastics/vinyls that I can recommend to her? Meguiar's NXT Tech Protect?

thanks!
Mark

Default Armor All Removal

Soap and warm water. It will take several repeats.

Armor All is nasty stuff. It is silicone based so it is hydrophobic. In other words, it repels water and isn't soluble in water. That means the usual remedy of washing with mild soap and water won't work very well. You need something that's a solute for silicone, naphtha and mineral spirits being the most commonly available ones. Unfortunately, most silicone solutes are very damaging to vinyl and leather. Some of the newer "environmentally friendly" paint prep products will work, and do less damage to vinyl. But the best thing is to never allow that crap anywhere near your car in the first place.

This will help get it off, Methylated Spirits (also known as denatured alcohol).

My C6 just came back from the body shop with Armor All on the dash. I took it off with Dawn Detergent and water. Just get a soapy wash cloth, wring it out and wipe. Then dry off with a cotton towel.

After a few weeks the slickness will disappear and the car will be back to normal. No damage done.

Dawn will do the trick.

3M sells a Wax remover that I've used prior to SS Insert install on the rear.

I use Armor All Low SHine/Luster for my dash and Turtle Platinum elsewhere.

Best product I've used is Stoner's Trim Shine but it's hard to find. Again not for the dash

I don't understand why her mother was detailing her C6 in the first place.

Stay away from mineral spirits or harsh chemicals, believe me, Armor All will fade on its own, if you want to speed things up use a damp cloth or buy Armor All Cleaner (not protectant) this should remove alot of the stuff, but don't kill yourself by trying to remove all the shine at one time, just be patient, it will fade...
