I've been reading old threads about how to remove dried on wax from black trim and see that peanut butter works very well. My question is: since PB is really thick and greasy, is it hard to get off of the trim? If so, what are the best methods to get it off?
I have a empty jar in my garage which I use a soft cloth and wipe inside of jar to get a small amount. You then rub on trim. It is not like buttering a bread. Just small amount on cloth and rub. Good luck
yes, have heard of this, but never tried it. Don't want the smell or mess.
Try this : it's never failed for me. Just had my Dad over last weekend : 10 yr old Mercedes that's never been properly detailed. White wax crusted on the door handles.
take Meguiar's quick detailer - spray door handles
scrub the black trim with $3 meguiars detail brush
scrub for about 1 minute in all areas, then wipe with T-shirt cloth.
apply Mother's Back to Black with T-shirt cloth -
works like a charm, and you don't have cockroaches trying to get in your garage or crawl up the side of your car for a taste.
An old detailer's trick is to spray a toothbrush with vinyl/rubber protectant (like Amorall) and scrub the affected area. Wipe clean with a cloth. Works every time.

That is pretty much the way I do it except I use either a foam paint brush or recently I have been using a foam tire wipe to apply the back to black. The wedge shape just fits in the area above the trim and you can run it along the side without smearing it on the paint.
Tried the PB today on some black plastic that had alot of white 'chalk' -- it worked by far the best of anything I've tried! And, it's easy to take off given a little time (10-15 min's) to firm up so it can be wiped with a rag. Leaves a bit of a sheen, too.
