Default Question for Killrwheels@Autogeek

I've been to your website in search of the products I would need to clean my machine silver 2005 C6 Coupe.

First, you have a great website and the tips department is great.

Second, you carry it all. Impressive.

Here's my Q: It's really difficult to figure out what to buy since there are so many products, tools, details, etc.

Do you carry a basic starters kit? Something with the whole enchilada to get started and do the job we all want to se done on the car.

Thanks.

Funny that you ask that question. I posted similar question on their website detail forum. Here's a link that can steer you in the right direction. I'm sure killrwheels can elaborate more on your question...

I am not quite sure what you have, and what you need. But I would carefully offer this package as it is clear pretty much the whole enchilada. Only things I can think to add is car wash, clay, a couple extra microfibers, and a wheel protectant of your choice.

email me or PM me offline and I can provide specific links as needed. Come by our new forum for Autogeek specific freebies, reviews, and best use processes also.

Ah .... memories of silver serve me well. Pinnacle Souveran the god of carnuba's. Now I must play with black once again .... but I still love to top with Souveran paste.

As for requesting links offline, I suspect most of our current clients can find each product, but newer clients may not have been able to fully navigate the entire site. Heck, I find things daily that I did not even know we carried

WTH? Who is attacking anybody here? Your comments are a joke and very disrespectful to those that do not use your products.

I'm sure thats why you guys created the other forum. You guys do carry alot of products, but its sure not the end of the detail word.

I'm sorry if you feel offended. You were in no-way the point of the comment. There are forum members that have other agenda's versus simply offering their favorite products. The client should be able to freely ask about a product or line and receive warm advice from actual users. Seems pretty fair .... but once again sorry it was taken personally.

(Look at a recent Rejex post for instance, I did not come on and suggest using Pinnacle instead. I did suggest more than a number of washes that work with this specific sealant. Infact, I even offered another forum vendor specifically and several store bought products also. I enhanced the post and hopefully allowed it to progress)

Not taken personally.

You did say "attacks from other product faithfuls" Maybe I don't read this forum enough but I can't recall anybody "attacking" anyone over a product choice.

Attack may have been to strong a word, thus post was repaired. I am glad you were not offended personally.

Scott, thanks so much for your reply. For the benefit of anyone else who may be in my situation I will post here, but reserve the right to send some PM's to you.

Let me give a little more texture to what I am looking for. First, I have a new vette. Really happy with the paint and it's look. I take it regularly to the car wash (brushless) and everything they do at the wash is first rate. It's a place called "Fullers" in Hinsdale, Il. They are awesome.

When I take my car to thier wash, I usually want to take my car home and do some detailing: shine the wheels a little better, interior, underhood, etc.

There are times however when I just want to clean her myself. From top to bottom. Reminds me of my younger days when I made the time to do this every week. Those days are more limited now, given real life and all the time pressures that come with it.

So, I have thrown out all of my prior cleaning stuff (I won't even mention what I had because it was terrible and quite frankly, I was not into the whole care thing then as I am now). I have nothing at home, at all.

What do you recommend I look at as a starter kit that includes even the bucket! And what do you recommend for a little more detailing.

Thanks and sorry for making this so long winded!

OK, got a little more of a handle on what your needs are and where you might turn. Not sure if you want to tackle polishing (abraded the surface to remove or reduce swirls) so I am going to offer three of four kits, and any additional "must have" items with why I have offered them. (I also did not catch the color of your car, and if you prefer reflective finish or more depth and wetness)

Optimum Kit (basic)
This kit is really a versatile kit for someone looking to occasionally detail there car. Its got a nice wash, a nice and easy spray wax (you literally spritz and wipe, no drying time and no need to rewipe). The protectant can be used inside and outside (tires). The wax is not that durable but has UV inhibitors and easy to use between washing. Look is clean and clear but not super reflective nor wet. I would add a Guzzler Waffle Weave to dry the car. We have a nice selection of buckets, but would offer to pick one up locally to save on shipping or look at a foam gun. I also would suggest a sheepskin mitt for washing specifically. (no polish kit) With just a little more work (not much I swear) the Four Starr Kit will give you a super reflective finish using these same basic principles. Sealant (versus a wax) will need to dry and wipe off so just a little harder. The Gloss Spray amps up the finish between layers and detailing sessions and adds addtl slickness. Additional micro's make a fine addition to any kit

The forum favorite kit
This Kit would be a nice middle ground kit that would be designed more to use after a trip to the wash, or you could add a wash and sheepskin mitt and have a full detailers dream. Klasse AIO is an acrylic based paint cleaner with protection. It truly is a must have because it helps to clean paint chemically. (some say it has abrasive qualities) never really noticed all that much personally. The Klasse SG is the equivelent of a bullet-proof jacket. It is a pain in the keister to remove if not used extremely light, but will save lifes (or finishes) for months of protection. Souveran is the topper to it ... and this wax wins shows plain and simple. It will provide depth and wetness that no sealant can , but is not very durable. The Crystal Mist is used to keep the Souveran amped up between detailing sessions and is as easy to use as Optimum above. (looks much better IMO) Another kit that does not include SG but includes clay to prep the finish prior to AIO is this newer designed kit. KIT # 2

Carnuba Lovers and my Personal Fav
This kit is my personal favorite and hard pressed to find another kit with so many benefits. Its got the wash, Souveran Wax, and Crystal Mist as well as all the towels needed. This kit is so darn easy to use, and looks so nice that it will seriously have you reconsidering EVER using that carwash again. Its actually a relaxing way to amp your car, and with Souveran you are tops in carnuba looks and protection. Just remember with Souveran you go panel by panel and wipe on and right off. It should not dry, but come off slightly damp. You will be amazed at how easy it is. This kit also offers some interior protection, and leather protection. The vinyl protectant could also be used on tires if you wanted a matte yet slightly glossy finish.

Poorboys Kit (Polishing Also Included in kit)
This is the kit that I personally would have designed for new detailers and professionals alike. It truly has everything (other than car wash ?) to take a finish from start to ... well finish . One kit has a buffer included, the other doesnt. If you dont have a PC, than due yourself a favor and highly consider it. Hand polishing will in no way keep up with a machine, and this machine is the most user friendly tool. This kit will have you polishing (2.5 SSR), jeweling (1.0 SSR), and protecting as well as upkeep on finish between details. My personal hint on this easy to use, even in direct sunlight kit, I use the Spray and Gloss to spritz the damp finish prior to final drying with my Guzzler. The leftover water on the finish (I blow the finish with a leaf blower first) seems to dilute the spray just slightly to stop some light streaking and really seems to help amp up the finish.

So while I could spend a whole day suggesting kits and going over each (thats why I offered offline to discuss specifics) these are a couple I would personally consider. But that said .... pick a kit and lets talk a little more about how to use each product specifically for the best results as needed.

All Kits ....

If a bucket is truly needed, here's a favorite

Thanks to all who have written in so far. There are so many products out there, but this has helped me out a great deal.

Killr, two quick points/q's:

First, I have the Machine Silver on my vette. Does this change your recommendations any?

Second, I have the 3M film on the front and side mirrors, does this change your recommendations any? If so, what do you go with then?

PS, thanks for putting in so much time into your responses. You can tell you love what you do, and do what you love.

You can treat the 3M clear just like paint when you are applying wax or a sealant.

Not really ... the machine silver is a metallic paint and carnubas will bring out the flake. And I must use GMBlack3's advice as I have never waxed or sealed over 3M film ....

I Zaino over my 3M film all the time. I also like that Zaino goes on so thin and you can never see any buildup along the edges like with some other products.
