I am a guest here as I am primarily a Jeep TJ owner. I wandered over here looking for and found some good detailing advice.Thought I'd drop a quick post in here to report on the condition of my wheels.
Last fall I ordered a set of AR polished aluminum wheels and had them clear powder coated before mounting them. Although we haven't had a terribly tough winter here so far we have had a few good doses of snow and LOTS of chemicals and crap used on our roads and highways. So last weekend when it warmed up in the 40's I took the Jeep to the car wash. The wheels went back to looking like new condition by simply washing them off with soap and water! No tarnishing, no scratches and they are as bright and clean as when I got em?
After only 1/2 a winter and a few months I don't know how that compares to uncoated wheels or how they would hold up otherwise but so far I am very pleased! I only paid 25 dollars a wheel to have em powder coated. To have to not polish em is worth the price alone!
If you are going to put a set of expensive wheels on your ride that you want to keep looking new you should strongly consider or look into having this done!

The wheel shop I use gets $100.00 per wheel but they do have to strip off the old surface and re-machine the shiney areas and color/clear the area's of your choice.
No these were brand new wheels and were 25 a wheel to clear coat only. I had em dropped shipped from the wheel supplier to the powder coater to save shipping one way. I have a reference if anyone would like the name and number of the place.
I will admit the finish from pure polished uncoated aluminum wheels to coated is perhaps a hair less bright, but for my application and not having to ever polish it was totally worth it!
