Default Rock chip repair

Not sure if I'm in the right section but here's the question. Had a chip on my coupe top right at the edge where the locator pin is. Was pretty deep so I dabb'ed on about 3 coats. Of course now I have a bubble on it that needs to be smoothed out. Read somewhere on the forum that you can use 2000 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. Is this correct and do I use it dry or with some lubricant

I just used this product. It's called 'Final Touch' touch up. It does a great job..no blobs and dries in about a minute. Can be waxed in a few days.

Sounds like a good product. Problem is mine is already on and dry and needs to be smoothed out

Give Langka a try, it works. All you really need is the blob eliminator, not the whole kit.

Here my process.
1. I use Blue painters tape to section off the chip.
2. I then use GM touch up paint & apply 2 to 3 coats using a match head. remove the tape.
3. I wait a few days for the blob to cure & take a credit card & I wrap a yellow 100% cotton polishing cloth making 2 thin layers around the card.
4. I then take ACETONE on my finger & dab it on the yellow cloth. (dont put to much on, just a little will do) I take the wrapped credit card & gently go back & forth over the paint blob until it's now level with the paint surface.
I then take GM polishing compound that comes with their touch-up kit & apply the polish to the now dull touch up. I then take ZYMOL Wax cleaner & buff out the paint. Then I take Rejex & apply it as the final step.

Then it's off to the refrigerator
for a cold Corona & lime to admire the touch up.

yep - you need
http://www.langka.com
buy the blob eliminator. I'm really happy with this product - eliminates the need to sand your beautiful vette -- something I really never wanted to do.

Bugman (or anyone who may have used both of these products) - I've got two chips I need to deal with and figured Langka was the way to go until I saw this touchup123 - any idea which one may be the better way to go?

Thanks

SMR - sorry have not tried the 123 product. I'm very happy with my own results with Langka, so I can vouch for that product. The 123 thing is kind of new for the guys on this board, so may have to wait a bit to get some guys with experience.

keep an eye on this thread

I have never tried the 123 product either. It kinda sounds to good to be true but who knows, give it a try and let us know how it works.

I have used Langka and can say it does work well. With just the 2 chips to fix it also sounds like it is more suited for your type of repair. Let us know what you decide and how it worked.

the stuff is great - period! i've even used it on a 1/18 scale c5-r diecast that had a chip in the finish. millemium yellow touchup and langka - one trick i've used is an artist eraser instead of the cotton streched over the plastic card thing...

Default touch-up paint

123touchup and langka may be good... i like ot buy from online retailers just to compare colors. dealer touch up paint RARELY matches your car once it leaves the lot. shop around for online retailers next time you get paint, even if its just for a model car... hell, you might even save a few bucks! try http://touchuppaintonline.com
