I have been driving a Corvette in Michigan's weather for 5, going on 6 years now... I use the quarter car wash with some microfiber towels to dry (about a dozen of the little ones dries it pretty good!)... I try to wash it once a week... even if it is just spraying it down...

After years and years of tireless research... I have found that soap and water used during the winter months has the same effect on dirt and grime as when used during the summer months

I have some gloves from a diver's wet suit. They were originally sold as motorcycle rain gloves and they work pretty well for cold weather washing. It's still got to be above freezing but at least your hands don't go numb.

I have a heated garage with drains and water. Never been a problem. Every vehicle I own is used all year long. My new vert WILL be a daily driver except when we get a real big snowfall. On good days I even ride my motorcycles in the winter. There are always good days. Of course I'm lucky as I'm retired and can pick and choose when to go.

Use Protect All Quick & Easy Wash in the winter to wash the car in the garage. You just need QEW, a bucket of water, and some good MF towels. No need to use a hose to rinse the car with water.

Our winter consists of three-to-five days each year, in South Florida. And it seems like each one of them I insist on washing the car. Wife simply asks why I have a bottle of this :

She might have a point, but I feel that she just doesnt understand the bond between Vette and owner.

We go to a hand car wash. He does a lot of high end cars and is very careful. 14 bucks and it's done!

The Vette doesn't come out in the winter, but I have a black Denali as my daily driver. It NEVER goes to an automatic...only hand washes. I look like an idiot, but I wear those yellow dish washing gloves and use warm water. It keeps your hands from freezing. Then I back it in the garage and dry it.

Try using cool water.
Hot water will remove your wax or sealant at a much faster rate than cool water.

I use(d) both the "sit in the car while the machinery revolves around you" kind as well as the "get out and use the spray wand" kind. The former typically has undercarriage wash as well as blow dryers, but they also have a little place where your tire goes, and really wide tires might not fit; they also can't provide the attention to detail that you can if you do it yourself. Of course, the former also means you don't stand around outside with wet hands and feet (at a minimum). Sometimes I'll take a bucket and some soft towels to the spray wand place and do a little hand washing. They typically have signs asking you not to do that, but since there's never a line waiting to use the stall , they never call you on it.

In Palatine, on the south side of Rand Rd just west of 53 is a place with both kinds. Further up Rand is another place with the spray wands. There's also a spray wand place on Dundee between Rand and 53.

Lets talk!!! I'm in Central Florida (East Coast) and I love the winter... that's when I can enjoy my C-6.
I can offer you a more hands on position with my company (little behind the desk) if you are willing to relocate. The job is rewarding and flexable.

Home Inspections...Interested...PM me.

Think about it...Year round Corvetting!!!
