The surface finish of the clear top on my 98 is flaking off. I assume that it's some sort of clearcoat. (?)
Has anyone satisfactorily refinished one of these? I'm considering wet sanding, compounding, or whatever, to remove the remaining clear finish, then taking it to a body shop & having them recoat it.
Maybe it isn't a standard clearcoat, and needs something special from the factory?
If this isn't practical, I think I may wet sand it smooth & have it painted the body color. Having the clear top doesn't do much for me one way or the other.
I believe Mid-America has a service where you can exchange your top for a re-manufactured one. I've never heard of anyone re-doing their own top.

The lexan top has a UVR coating, similar to that of headlights, I don't know of a way of replacing this type of coating. It may have been cleaned with an abrasive not suited to Lexan (plastic) or a brush type car wash
I would be careful of wet sanding Lexan. If read the owners mannual it will tell you not to use any abrasive on it. Perhaps a body shop has an idea for you.
