Never used and never transferred owners?
You can only transfer owners of a personalized plate once and only before it's attached to a vehicle.

You are allowed one transfer before it is attached to a car. That is it. No more. So a family member can be the one prior to first use but that is all.
I have 3 personal plates that I do not use, one of which is my last name, and I cannot transfer any to my sons.

Trying to understand this. So my dad has personalized plates that he hasn’t used in 20 years. He’s never transferred them before can he not give them to me? I actually just filled out the paper work and will be going to ServiceOntario tomorrow. Is says nothing on the transfer application other than it could only be transferred to family. Bellow is the application.

Good luck but it is my clear understanding that this form is used in the event of a death and the transfer of the car and plate to a spouse. I agree it is unclear. The language is very clear for personal plates. One transfer prior to attaching to a car.
Tell us how you make out. I would love to give at least one of mine to my son(s).

I hope I’m not jacking the thread but this could help OP sell his plates. To a family members anyways.
So the personalized plates that I have haven’t been used since 1998. They were bought in the mid eighties. So because my father doesn’t have the ownership he has to fill out a vehicle registration form and also a Third party letter of authorization form on top of the plate transfer form that we already filled out. But she said it can certainly be done between family members. So this is just more $$$ for the government.
Long story short, I’m about to buy a classic car and use my dads plates and pay the $120 a year for the sticker instead of getting the historic plates and pay $30 a year. At this point I’m just going to get the historic plates for now.

Hello Everyone,
The plates have never been registered to a car.
If interested, email Steve. If not, don't worry about being the MTO.

On of the guys in the Windsor On. club just purchased a 2003 anniversary for another member and he could transfer the plate with the car because the plate had some significance to the car. It had 50th in the plate. So it’s showing it can be done if it has something to do with the car.
