c7 3 month oil change
My dealer recommends an oil change/service at 3 months/5,000 km. Is this work covered by GM Canada since it is earlier than their suggested oil change? I will have it done regardless, but just wondering?

You don't need to change it any more often than the owners manual and DIC indicate.... It's been a while since motor oil needed changing very 3 months regardless of mileage....

Generally I do not believe there is a need for the frequent changes recommended by your dealer. Particularly if you use synthetic. Having said that I personally believe that it is smart to change the oil in a brand new car at around 1500 km. Remember I am saying new only; and see this as being a means to get rid of the swarf (crud) left from the manufacturing and initial running period. I know the filter is supposed to catch it but to me this is when the car is most vulnerable and an oil/filter change is a very cheap form of preventative maintenance.

Oil changes are required at 6 months/10,000 kms, and are covered for the first two years/40,000 kms...

New car, new motor ... I would recommend changing the oil after the motor break in period ... get rid of any crude which founds it's way into the motor ... plus all the rings and such should be nicely conditioned ... and fresh oil and filter is a relatively cheap way to ensure a nice long engine life.

Is the original factory fill oil "special formulation" for ring and other component break-in ?
What does GM say about break-in period and when to do the first oil change ?
I believe for old school / conventional engines the protocol is to break in with conventional motor oil before switching to synthetic oils ; as proper break-in will not be achieved with synthetic oil, as it is to slippery ?

There is no specific guidance given for break-in, outside of the standard:
Vary your speeds, utilize all gears, limit full throttle and/or red line usage for the first 800-1000 kms..
GM does provide a more detailed break-in direction for those using the car at the track...

Actually this is only half true. The Z51 cars come with Mobil 1, however the base models only come with semi synthetic AC Delco oil. And I believe most dealers will try to put in that same semi synthetic oil for all the free oil changes unless you specify (and pay extra for) Mobil 1.
The last few years of the C6 were the same way, the only cars that got Mobil 1 were the dry sump cars (Z06, GS and ZR1) but the rest got semi synthetic.

Started out with ESSO truck oil 35 years ago, until the Zinc levels went down the tubes ; switched over to CASE IH tractor oil (oh my gawd !) but they just changed it to !
Next will probably be Mobil hang onto your hats : DELVAC diesel truck oil with EOS supplementing the zinc level LOL

I found this info in the C7 section under the Owner's Manual:
Be advised these are just a few sections, if you want to read the whole manual you can:
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Owner Manual

Selecting the Right Engine Oil
Use and ask for licensed engine oils
with the dexos1® approved
certification mark. Engine oils
meeting the requirements for the
vehicle should have the dexos1
approved certification mark. This
certification mark indicates that the
oil has been approved to the dexos1
specification. Corvette recommends
Mobil 1® engine oils that meet the
requirements of the dexos1
specification for its dry sump
equipped engines
Viscosity Grade
SAE 5W-30 is the best viscosity
grade for the vehicle. Do not use
other viscosity grade oils such as
SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, or 20W-50.
For track events or competitive
driving, use Mobil 1® 15W-50
engine oil. An instrument cluster
warning light will be illuminated at
high oil temperatures.
Engine Oil Change
When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL
SOON message displays, have the
engine oil and filter changed within
the next 1 000 km/600 mi. If driven
under the best conditions, the
engine oil life system might not
indicate the need for vehicle service
for more than a year. The engine oil
and filter must be changed at least
once a year and the oil life system
must be reset. Your trained dealer
technician can perform this work.
If the engine oil life system is reset
accidentally, service the vehicle
within 5 000 km/3,000 mi since the
last service. Reset the oil life
system when the oil is changed
Required Services Every 12 000 km/7,500 mi
Check engine oil level and oil
life percentage. If needed,
change engine oil and filter, and
reset oil life system. See Engine
Oil on page 10-10 and Engine
Oil Life System on page 10-16.
. Check engine coolant level. See
Engine Coolant on page 10-22.
. Check windshield washer fluid
level. See Washer Fluid on
page 10-26.
. Visually inspect windshield wiper
blades for wear, cracking,
or contamination. See Exterior
Care on page 10-69. Replace
worn or damaged wiper blades.
See Wiper Blade Replacement
on page 10-32.
