Can Mufflers be changed using jackstands?
If I were to remove my stock units & reinstall aftermarket units (mufflers only) can this be done in my garage using my RaceRamps & jackstands? Dealers & independents want 5.5 to 6 hours, which I can possibly see to change a whole exhaust system. Thanks Crew( & Stan for previous info)

I pulled the mufflers only, off my c4 with it sitting on stands at the rear of my car with no problems. Not sure I would attempt a complete system change. Good luck

Hey Wilf.
Raceramps might be a little low, but if you can raise the car up about 16" using jack stands, there should be plenty of room to change the exhaust, albeit, not very comfortably as you will be lying on your back, But it can be done.
Or if you'd like to see your car lifted by a forklift, I know where you can get that done, too.
Maybe someone can volunteer the use of a home garage lift for the couple of hours for a case of beer? Anyone local to you have one?

Most car guys (before intro of inexpensive garage hoists) did / do all that kind of work utilizing jack stands (real stands - not those mickey mouse wannabe 10" ones LOL).
Those floor tiles aren't conducive to doing real car stuff LOL

Can you roll a car around on a jack on tiles ? - I thought they were relatively pliable.
How do those tiles hold up when torching stuff : molten metal and slag dropping?
What's an avatar - the picture ??
All I know it ain't a C3 or older LOL

I can drive the front up on the Race Ramps which then should enable me to get the a$$ end up a fair bit with my 2.5 ton jack- objective being to get the rear end much higher than the front. What brought this thread on was that someone-somewhere years ago said that I needed 46 inches off the floor for the rear to remove the mufflers only.

Remember this picture.....i had the car only for couple weeks and started tearin, this is when i used to live in apartment, underground parking......mufflers, headers....all in night started in late evening and finished in morning, when every one was sleeping.......woo hoo.
If you bring it to my shop, it will be done while you waiting.....1/2-1 hr at the most.

Car guys do their own work, car enthusiasts attempt to do it and car owners just have someone do it for them Amen

Jack stands, welding, floor Jacks and what ever is needed to build & fix a race car. At the end of every race they still look new.

"Car guys" are friendly and offer advice and help when they can, "car know it alls" sit on their computer and shoot snide remarks when a simple answer was all that was needed.
