Default Shipping (new wheels) Parts to Canada?

Hi Gang.

Looking at buying a set of rims in the US. Cant seem to find a "Dropstar" dealer in Ontario.

The wheel shipper uses UPS and of course UPS charges a brokerage fee and collects duties and taxes at delivery. Other than shipping to CBI (then paying taxes at the boarder) has anybody used any other method?

USPS? How do they collect their extra charges?
Fed-Ex?, Purolator?

PITA for me to drive to get them over the boarder otherwise I would.

I'm all ears and open to ideas.

Anybody have a close contact for Truck wheels? Most are "tuner" shops and not interested in truck wheels.

Tips? Yup, 1) UPS sucks, do NOT use EVER !!!

2) rent a box at CBI in the Niagara Falls side, drive down, pay only taxes crossing over.

USPS - sometimes yes, but most often no duties

I bought my TT's from a Speed Shop on Transit Rd in Buffalo. I deal with Corvettes and Performance regularly for parts and they sent me to the Speed shop.
You would just pay the tax at the boarder.

If you want them shipped to Canada USPS is the only way to go. I found that when I used USPS AIR I never paid duties for some reason but of course shipping rims by air would not be cost effective unless you didn't get stuck with duty.

Honestly CBI is your best bet. I've bought exhausts and rims from US and Japan, massive bend over tax, duty and brokerage fees whomever you use that is not a government-controlled service (and sometimes them as well).

All depends on how much you value your time/gas money. Personally I'd rather pay at the border than given DHL/UPS/Fedex the satisfaction of $65 in service fees in which they tax the tax.

Don't even need to rent a box.Pay as you go ($5.95/pkg) unless you plan on several dozen purchases/pick-ups per year.Check out CBI's website at WWW.CBIUSA.COM

Yep,UPS DEFINITELY sucks!!

I was looking for an alternate to CBI really.
It's a 10 hr return drive for me to get there.

I never get down there either. It's just not practical for me.

Tks for the PM's. I've explored some ontario options. No responses back yet.

Fingers crossed.

Manny, Thanks!

I'll be in touch when I pull the trigger.
Just determining IF the wheel company will ship to "you" as opposed to only me. I don't see why not, but stranger things have happened.

Mike

Just saw this thread and thought id update it. Not that anybody really cares.

Purchased my wheels from a online retailer out of Illinois. Id say the name but dont want to go to camp. VERY impressed, I'll PM the name if anybody wants it. Wheels wereshipped out of California to Manny's CBI box "free", as it was "all in pricing" for the "lower 48".

Manny, above and beyond again. Thanks for the pick up in NY and "the ride" back to Breslau.

I drove to Breslau to pick up the wheels "on my way" to Toronto. (Luckily I can bill mileage on my expense account )

Couple days later had the tires mounted up. Washed up the truck, drying in the yard Sunday afternoon and decided to take a pic.

20x9-18 Dropstar 645mb's with LT275 65 20E Toyo AT II's.
Surprisingly rides better than the stock tire and wheels with the same air pressures (50lbs all around).
Less road noise as well.

I'm a happy camper.

Good looking rims. Will you run them all 12 months?

Thanks Mike.

Nope. Back to factory wheels but with LT rated snow tires installed. The factory Firestone Transforce's are not a good winter tire. "All season" tires in the winter just don't cut it for me. I do ALOT of driving, especially "highway" in the winter, so for peace of mind I put on snow "boots".

I have the truck pretty much how its going to stay now. LED lights are mounted, body color hood guard, tonneau cover (Mopar one sucks BTW), weathertech mats, tinted windows, changed the wheels and tires. Only other thing might be a black chrome exhaust tip if I can get one at a decent price. Oh yeah, and take the "2500 heavy duty" badges off the doors and fenders.
