Hey Mike. I'm thinking of getting the same head unit. Just no Kenwood (eXcelon) dealers around me. If you decide to go for it, let me know. Maybe we can get a deal on 2.

Dennis @ Double D in the u.s. audio section seems to be the way to go with the knowledge of stereo's and components. He ships to Canada and when I chatted with him, he was willing to 'tweak' the selling price if you know what I mean to minimize the charges. Although I haven't purchased yet, he knows what fits, what extra's you need i.e. adaptors, cables etc....and offers great package deals

I have a similar system in my f150 and a 7 series Kenwood in the Vette. Of the 2, the 7 series is much better. Larger screen, boots up in 1/2 the time. I always recommend Kenwood because of the Garmin nav, but suggest going to the better unit.

Default DNX890HD - Something to consider

Originally Posted by SICK-VETTE

I recently installed the 890 in my Chevy pick up. I bought the Kenwood primarily for the Garmin navigation system. Garmin GPS units are just plain simple to use. The search function is not too bad either. Updating the software and maps is as simple as plugging in a USB stick.

Two items that you should consider are;

The Bluetooth system is not integrated into your factory steering wheel controls. You must answer/hang up your calls using the touch controls in the Kenwood unit. *** You can use the steering wheel volume control to set the volume of the phone conversation.*** Also the unit comes with its own microphone that needs to be installed typically hanging from your head-liner near your mirror. You better determine the exact location for the microphone before hand.

But my main issue is I find the display too bright for night driving. I have tuned it to the dimmest settings but it still bothers me ... a lot.

I like the 690/691 because of the dial. Just my preference when I change the volume. The higher end units have the push buttons for volume, which is ok, I just prefer the dial.

Thanks. I've seen lots of great prices on the unit itself. But the devil's in the details of what else is needed and installation. I'm looking for an OTD price.

The Kenwoods have an optional backup camera.

Rear View Camera Input – Eliminate blind spots and improve safety when reversing your vehicle by adding an optional Kenwood CMOS reverse camera. Once the camera is installed, as soon as you put the vehicle into reverse, the rear view image will appear automatically on the DNX/DDX monitor.
