Stunt driving on CTV news
Not sure if any one else saw this. I was watching the news last night and apparently they had an undercover cop holding a clipboard watching for unsafe driving and cell phone stuff etc. on Bayview and 7 during the day and C5 Z06 drove by kinda spiritedly while the cameras were rolling. They charged him with Stunt driving and loaded up his car.

Saw it on the 6 pm news last night. They had him dead to rights on both police video and CTV. Did you hear the cop yell at him to pull over? What happens if it wasnt the driver's vette? They impounded the vette and talked about the potential fines. It was a nice blue C5 Z.

Highway 7 and Weston Road. Speed limit was 60kph where that happened. A C5Z does what, 50mph or 80kph in 1st gear bouncing off the rev limiter and that didn't sound like the rev limiter to me. Here's the rule that was cited.
172. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway in a race or contest, while performing a stunt or on a bet or wager. 2007, c. 13, s. 21.
So what probable grounds did the police use to enforce this rule for the case given? I didn't see another car racing him. I didn't see a stunt unless they're now calling accelerating a stunt? Maybe he was he driving around on a bet or wager and the story didn't bother telling that part?
Don't tell me that every car on that road wouldn't pass the camera about that fast the way the camera was being held. 60kph means everyone would be doing 80kph or more on a typical day there. Watch the start of that shot. That tan car that appears at the start of the cut goes the rest of the way through the frame fast too.
It's apparently got to the point that the police can just steal your car and your license from you for 7 days without a good reason. "Throw the book at you" using a bullcrap interpretation of that street racing rule and that leaves you trying to sort it out later. I hope when he gets off in court he sues the officers and police dept. involved for all the costs he incurred.
I often times run my car up to 50kph to 60kph just driving around and that's not even close to a full throttle run, just holding 1st gear a little longer. But apparently I'd better stop since accelerating is a "stunt". Wonder what is safe in first gear? 30kph?? 20kph?? 40kph??

our politicians are running out of ways of screwing us into the ground, so its really just another tax....in a fiew years, when housing sales and condo sales are down big time, they will have something new to f us with....bet the bank on it....we gotta pay for the coin they cant even account for.... besides, if you wanna really gun it, grow a pair and take it to the track.

Wrong move, wrong time, wrong place.
Since nobody's posted it yet, here's the link: http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1022961
The C5Z speeds by at 0:30, the rest is a nice driving day ruined (the next 7, in fact.) Would be interesting to see if this was someone of these forums, and if so just how any actionable determination of speed was made, or if it was just the noise made under acceleration that gave the impression of speed. Stunt driving can be very loosely interpreted. As the reporter says "First you hear it, then you see it."
Either way, it was clear to see the York Regional officer was going go to take every advantage of this photo opportunity to set the example, which I believe the majority (though not necessarily in this forum) would support.
Sad to still see such raging animosity against the fast driver, but good at least to see active stealth enforcement fining bad drivers, as there are so many. I'd like to see more the inattentive drivers however have their rides removed.

Wow, talk about playing Super Cop for the camera.
Complete officer's digression call, just to show his power to the news girl and have his picture on the news.
How many times could we all have been that victim?

I was alright with everything in that video, except the completely trumped up stunt driving charge.
At no point was the car out of control, there wasn't even tire squeal, no stunt being performed nor was there a danger to anyone he was able to stop within 20 meters of the officer yelling to stop, clearly he was racing,or stunting....... This crap pisses me off.
The only possible charge the could have been laid was a speeding charge if it could be determined that he was speeding there was clearly no "pace" done and it didn't appear any type of radar was present.
All we have here is a Cam woolley wanna be, he should follow in Cam's footsteps and realize he a terrible cop and join the media, it is clear he likes being the center of attention and on TV.
Street Racers and Aggressive Drivers – Effective September 30, 2007
Police can issue an immediate seven-day driver’s licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment for street racing, participating in a driving contest or stunt driving.
The definition of a “driving stunt” includes driving a motor vehicle at 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit.
The Act also bans driving a motor vehicle on a highway with a connected nitrous oxide system. Some street racers use nitrous oxide to enhance the acceleration capabilities of their vehicles.
Maybe the cop can read this law and decide what this guy actually did that constitutes a stunt driving charge.

Just another example of a douchebag cop on a power trip that wants to be a TV star.
It's no wonder so many people don't like cops.
Armed with the TV footage, I hope the Corvette owner fights these trumped-up BS charges in court. There was no radar gun, no pacing, no tire squealing, no other car racing. Total BS.
