Hi Red Zed,
You're the first person I've heard that is with Telnet - I have been with them (idirect) for years on dial-up (yup you read it correctly DIAL-UP).
Intend to get their basic high-speed in the next week or so.
What service / speed do you have with them.
Is there a monthly limit or capacity ?
Can you rent the modem or is it purchase only ?
Does their modem support a laptop ?
Any problems or tips regarding telnet ?
Thank you,
Jerry

I couldn't handle slow internet/low monthly caps...
We have about 5 pc's, 1-work from home , 1 in the garage to stream music/youtube vids, 1 pc hooked up to the tv for Netflix, youtube etc, kids pc, wifes pc
Don't need to watch Hillbilly handfishing anymore, better stuff online than whats on cable these days

I've got to talk to some friends down the road that have been through this rigamarole already.
Man I was finally going to get into the new millenium and got thwarted !!
I guess I really am destined to be an analogue man in a digital world

I was with Bell and always had issues with line noise and slower then listed
speeds so went to Rogers and love the service. They might be a bit more
expensive but no issues and worth the money for the real speed.

Had a level 2 technician check out my Bell Internet as since they sent me the new modem, I cannot have my front lights on at night as the frequency of my lights outdoor cfl cxls out my Internet. they are looking for an older modem for me to use. Speed is 2.1 mb/s at best. Rogers is looking like they will have my tv and Internet service soon and maybe phone as well. Will see what pkg deal they come up with to switch.

I went to the Bell store ; all I can get is via "Turbo stick" (like a cell phone deal) they told me within the year our area will have fibre optic and then we'll be able to get DSL.
With Bell the stick costs $200 to buy and $42 month for up to 2 gigs.
Checked FIDO (on line) same stick (Sierra 763S) is also $200, but can't figure out the service charge : monthly is $35 for 5 gigs , monthly with 2 yr FIDO agreement for 5 gigs is $72 ???
Why would regular monthly be cheaper than with 2 year agreement ??
Although with 2 yr agreement the stick cost is only $50.
Now I'm thinking of going with FIDO ?
Anyone using a Turbo stick ? any experience with Bell, FIDO etc ?

Jerry, those sticks can get expensive as you can go through that amt of gb fairly quickly. I was told the same thing over a yr ago about fibre and higher speeds by Bell. I have just about had it with Bell!

Re stick - I don't have much choice if I want to get off dial-up.
I don't use my computer for much else than email and surfing.
I'm still looking .............

I had Cogeco high speed (50mps) in Kingston and I am pretty sure that you can get it in Brampton. I had ZERO problems with it and only one issue after 2 years. Water got in a junction box on the street and I was down for the day. Highly recommend them.

Tired of Bell as well but when I first started with them, I used their @sympatico address for my email and now EVERYTHING goes to that email address. It would be a major PITA to try to switch everything to a new email. Before you decide to dump them, call to cancel and they will send you over to their retention dept who will surely do something to make you (somewhat) happy.

I had my wife deal with Bell this morning as I got too busy at work - they are sending a line repair crew out tomorrow afternoon. We've been patient and passed from one person to another for long enough. If not fixed tomorrow we'll be with Rogers on Monday along with home phone.

Cost outright NO CONTRACT $115 and no activation fee.
5 gigs / month $35.
Seems to be a lot quicker (than dial-up) so now we'll see how the monthly useage adds up -whether I can keep it under the 5 gigs

You should be fine with 5gb given your stated useage. It's when you start watching movies/tv shows online that you go through lots of gb's. any restrictions on where you can use the stick?

Will have to be careful what I watch and for how long
I already paid (it re-newed automatically) for the dial-up so I'm going to switch between the two of them for now - rest of the year.
The guy at the FIDO store said I could use the stick anywhere - take it on a trip to use with a lap-top etc ?

We are away this weekend , maybe the following Sunday (Feb 10th) - I have to check with Pat (she's in Ottawa right now).
Sounds good though - would be nice to get out for a coffee again.
