I am so sorry to read this Pete, I can only begin to imagine what you are going through. I know you cannot go into further details but hopefully there is a payout that will tie you over and be able to bring your pension up to full value and start pulling it down sooner without penalty.

Sorry to hear Pete.
I agree with Greg, I'd think some sort of financial arrangement can be made. Keep your head up. Your better than them.

I'm really sorry to hear Pete and forgive me for highjacking this thread.

Is there any possibility at all re early retirement? Isn't it RBC that advertises, "you're worth more than you think"?

Wow Pete, that is just a crappy way to treat people who have given their all to the service.

Real sorry to hear of your situation Pete, the same thing happened to my mother 7 years ago. She got through it, and I'm sure your family will to. Us Canucks are a resiliant bunch. Hopefully you can make the cruise and enjoy yourselves for a few days.....looking forward to meeting you.

it's like sitting in a life boat, so far out , you can't see land...

& the waves are getting bigger...

the comments from friends , seem to make the waves diminish somewhat...

thanks guys!

will report, when i get to shore lol

Pete.

Sorry to hear Pete.

Not sure if it helps or if you want to hear, but:

Keep your chin up.
You'll weather the storm.
Everything happens for a reason.
When god closes a door, he opens a window.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
Time heals all wounds.
What goes around, comes around.
When you have lemons, make lemonade.

I hope you at least got a chuckle from the above.

Stan.

Wow that is not good.

Do you get any kind of search period (on salary) to try and land another job with the
"city" ?
Are you in a union ?

Really feel for you man.

I too hope things work out for you Pete, maybe the contracting company will be looking to hire?

To keep things positive I'm going to say see you on the cruise!

naw , contracting company pays about $12 per hour , no benefits or pension...can't live on that in Toronto.

because i am over 55 my pension is "locked in"

can take early pension but with 23 years it is about $1600/month...can't live on that in Toronto.

if i work for another 2-3 years pension will bump to $2600/month & because the union contract states because they contracted out my job, they have to place me in a job.

reporting 7am-4pm mon-fri doing clerical crap , while HR finds me a position.

it sucks but still a pay-cheque

reverting back to days was a tough go, but it is getting better

now , after 23 years i have evenings, week-ends & Stat-Holidays off - what a concept!

Pulled the covers off the bikes yesterday to take the bikes out for a blast...that helped big-time !

Pete.

Hey......I drive 360km roundtrip 4 days a week for my paycheque. As long as your foot's in the door, you're still in the game. I know a lot of people would change places with you in a heart beat. Enjoy the dayshift........I sorta remember what that was like........

Pete, that big bright ball up in the sky that you now see while at work is called the sun. It is kind of a weird thing as it is there during the day everyday not just on vacation days. Anne and I are so glad to hear that you have secure employment until your retirement date. I'm retiring June 30, '15.
So this looks good for you both and the June cruise! We're in Tybee Island and Savannah this week. Saw a few Harley's being transported to Bike Week at Daytona - we were thinking of you.

so that's 6 to go 7.1.15

I found the perfect bar to head to our first March retired. Huckapoo's on Tybee Island Beach, it is the most bizarre place we've been to but a total blast. John Cougar Mellancamp recently hung out here for a number of years. Great pizza and cheap beer, big local hangout.

Looks like I'll have to miss the cruise.

My oldest called last night and said she got an email that her PhD graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 31 from 2 to 4 in Montreal so no way I'd be able to make it back in time for the start of the cruise.

I made the reservations for the hotel and ferry and was really looking forward to this. My wife even said she'd go. Maybe I'll head up Saturday in the reverse direction and then cruise the last stretch with you guys. Or better still maybe they will change the date for the graduation ceremony.

Well, that bites.

Congrats on the grad though! Be great if you can join us, even for part of the tour! When it gets closer we can touch base and get you a cell number or two for making contact.
