Garage Door
Hello everyone,
Looking to purchase a garage lift sometime this summer but first need to raise the door rails and relocate the garage door opener. I was wondering if any members here have done this before and if so would you recommend the person who did the work.

liftmaster with a jackshaft is the only way for a residential garage.
takes about $1000 to do it for a heavy double door.

This link will help you determine if you have the height requirement for a lift.

I agree, I'm also looking for a lift come summer but can't find one that suits my needs yet. Based on my small two car garage I'd still want Cathy to park beside the lift but the opening to the garage maybe too tight.
Still looking.

I'm going to assume that you've been looking at the four post lifts. Have you considered perhaps going with a two post lift.

Yes I have including the ones that are recessed 6 feet into the ground. I've found the two post lifts are at least 1 foot wider so although it would give me more room along the front of the garage opening it restricted the movement in the center. Also the 2 post have to be bolted down therefore I wouldn't be able to park it along the wall since I can't gain access to the side that's closest to the wall. Double edge sword so to speak.

Here's my 4 post. I have a great personal friend that does the garage doors/hi-lifts as a side business. If you're serious, pm me for his info.......the last 2 referrals I gave to members here, well one guy made him drive out a long way only for him to say I'm not ready.....wasn't so nice of him not to call my buddy and waste his time and fuel.
I did the structure mods myself and have 130 inches to the top, my z is all the way up on the lifts, sits on the safety pins during the winter and my wife's SUV X3 parks on the bottom with 4 inches or so to spare.

I did some research and found I'd have to redo the garage floor to reinforce it to secure the one post lift which would be quite expensive. Also I don't know if I'd trust parking another car underneath a one post life during the winter.
I'm still looking though.

Don't worry about safety. They are safe. The one draw back is you have a small hump on the floor that you have to drive over so if you are a "low rider" it might cause a problem, but otherwise they are fantastic.
