Has anybody here ever brought a vehicle into Canada with only the MSO (Manufactures Statement of Origin), meaning 'No' registration? Car is a 90 & has never been registered. Thanks.

I brought in , of all horrors, a mini van several years ago.
I had a letter from the manufacturer with the vin number stating it meet all canadian stantards at time of manufacture.
Two years ago I brought in a 1975 Caprice Classic convertible I bought in Carsile, the US customs needed a bill of sale and the ownership for 72 hours before export, at the port of exit, they were ok with it all faxed, just needed them in person when clearing customs.
You will have to pay GST @ Canada Customs when crossing, and PST when you register it. They will covert the US amount to Canadian before charging you GST.
A word to the wise, they will look up the car in the black book to see if you're pulling a fast one on the selling price, my advice, play it straight, you'll have no worries!
O.K. Thanks. I've brought vehicle's in before so I know the drill, but have never done it without having the previous owners registration/title. I think I've got my bases covered. Thanks again though

I've brought more than a few heavy trucks in from the U.S. with only an MSO, as long as it's been signed over and all your other documents are in place, they'll switch it for a CDN registration at the license office..... all cars/trucks etc have an MSO, we just never see them here in Canada... in the U.S they generate the title from the MSO....it's no sweat to do....
Here's a quote from their most recent e-mail newsletter:
Quote:
4. TITLE VS. MSO. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
This is a subject of many inquiries to UCanImport, so we thought we should
dedicate a paragraph to clarifying the difference and similarities between
these two documents.
TITLE
- Confirms ownership of a vehicle and is issued by a state department of
motor vehicles when a new vehicle is registered within the state. The title
bears the name of the owner(s) and also identifies if there are are lien holders.
If you are importing a vehicle from the US, you must confirm if the seller has
a title or is willing to apply for one.
- When the registered owner sells the vehicle, they must transfer the title
to the new owner by signing off in a designated spot on the front or the back
of the title certificate. The new purchaser then becomes the new legal owner
of the vehicle. If there is a lien on the vehicle, the seller can only sign
over the vehicle once the lien is paid off and the lien holder has signed a
lien release, either on the title or in a separate letter.
- The new purchaser can now submit this signed off title, and lien release if
applicable to the US border office as part of their vehicle export submission
as described in the importing guide.
MSO
- This document is issued by the vehicle manufacturer and is only applicable
to brand new vehicles that have never been registered in the US.
- If an importer purchases a brand new vehicle from a dealership in the US, the
dealership will provide them with the Manufacturer's Statement of Origin
document, which they can then use to export the vehicle from the US and register
it in Canada.
- The dealership in the US will sign off on the back of the MSO showing that the
vehicle has transfered ownership.
HINT: Some importers have friends and family living in the US who are willing to
purchase a brand new vehicle for them. This is usually a strategy when the auto
manufacturer restricts the sale of brand new vehicles to Canadian buyers. In most
cases, the US resident who purchased the vehicle will have to register the car in
the state and pay the purchase taxes. Sometimes, however, depending on the US
border crossing rules, the US resident may be allowed to sign off on the MSO as the
seller and bypass the registration process. This strategy puts the MSO into the
Canadian purchaser's hands even though they did not officially purchase the vehicle
in the US. They can then use the MSO to complete their importation and registration
in Canada.
O.K., Thanks for the replies guys . Sounds like it shouldn't be a big deal, MSO tag just replaces the Title, basically. I'll be curious what happens once I get it here, for the fact I want to keep it 'MSO', Not sure how that's going to work yet...?

Yes. I have brought a couple in. New 07 and new 08 Z06's, never registered. It is actually easier than a previously registered car as there is no state registration bs or working through titles. Bill of sale and mso and you're good as gold. I also kept my original MSO's. I put it through a colour copier (on both sides) and handed that in when registering. Worked like a charm.
