Default What timing chain set to run??

I thought i'd post this here to get some input from my fellow Canadians cause the US guys are still pissed about losing to Canada and i'm not getting very much input!

With all the reading i've been doing on this topic it's beginning to drive me nuts!

My car is getting torn apart next month to get my combo done and this is the last piece of the puzzle. I had just ordered the Comp 3158KT double roller then cancelled it due to everything i read about clearance issues with the double roller chains...then i've seen some findings with no issues! I am doing the Melling hi-volume oil pump as well and actually just read that the SLP pump has provisions for the double roller chains built in. Anyone know if the Melling's do also? It would sure solve this issue!

Back to the chains....I started looking into the Katech C5-R chain and i just wanted to confirm that for $150 i'm just getting the chain itself? The stock sprockets are reused? If this is the case i'd prefer to get a complete kit with new gears and have been looking at the Cloyes 9-3158A single roller set. Just looking for a little more input and if anyone has or is running this Cloyes model or the 9-3159A double roller for that matter. I'm pretty familiar with the LS stuff but this whole timing chain scene is really throwing me for a loop!

Thanks!

You answered your own question, well the cloyes you talking is the one, single not dual though, i never used it, but thats used by lot of em and i have not seen not single case if anyone break, pm "vettenuts" bob knows more about Timing chains than anybody. Usaully he returns your pm fast but as you said after they loose to us than may be response within 48 hrs...lol.

I have a Katech chain C5R, and also C6 LS2, but LS2 looks more beefier than C5R, but heard C5R is made in england and suppose to be more stronger steel.

BTW what mods ? mileage? if low mileage than you prolly just need chain not sprocket, but check if they are good though.

I've sold the CompCams double roller chain adjustable kit for the LS1 and haven't heard about any clearance issues with a stock pump (ported to flow better). Should be the same for the LS2 set.

Yea, i'm probably gonna just get the Cloyes single roller i guess. I've never broken one of their sets. I've never been one to re-use stock sprokets so that's why i was leaning away from the C5R chain even though everyone raves about them.

As far as my combo....2005 C6 MN6 with 9000Kms. Mods now are Vararam CAI and Bassani catback. Mods going on shortly....ported stock intake & TB, MSD wires, TFS heads, Comp ultra-gold rockers, SLP underdrive balancer/pulley, 1-7/8" longtubes w/ new 3" catless midpipe replacing the Bassani (keeping the axle-back with resonated tips), hi-volume oil pump, whiplash II cam and tune obviously. I think that's it...lol. Should put down some mild power i think.

Wow lots of good stuff, BTW 1 7/8, TFS heads, W'lash cam II....you better go with dual timing chain as with those main 3 pieces you would like to rev to moon...lol, as far as i know ECS used to install double roller T chain with thier H/C package but i heard even they installing single chain these days....just thought buy both single and double, test fit and return one. Great mods GL on new hell lot power.

Just run a new LS2 chain and gear setup. Double rollers will give you clearance issues, we've seen it and we don't run them anymore.
Like I said on p-shop, watch that diff, they are REALLY weak.

Yea, i talked to Steve the other day and i'm booked in with you guys on the 26th of April. I'll just let you guys take care of supplying the timing chain.

I have no intention or running sticky tires or taking it to the track. It's merely for my pleasure driving on the street and cruisin!

I'm assuming you are Brian then?? Lookin forward to gettin it all done!

I've heard great things about you. I know Shannon from years and years ago but i don't think he will remember me. I'm confident he'll be able to tune that cam perfectly.

I'll definately stop by sometime in the next 2-3 weeks or so and say hi and introduce myself!

This is what I would do to keep it plug n' play

JRP single roller with Mellings or
JRP double roller with SLP/Mellings oil pump.

Don't forget, too much oil pressure will rob you of horsepower.

Good to know that, just notice that infact he has Hi vol pump too, and not high pressure.

What do you think about SLP/PB under drive pulley? as most who broke T chains they had UD pulley.
