We want to go to Honolulu and take the kids to see Pearl Harbor, Polynesian cultural centre, etc but don’t know were the better places are to stay, (hotel, condo, etc) Anyone have some advice? We've been to Mexico and the kids aren't keen on swimming in the ocean (swallowing salt water) but love the beach and swimming in the pools.

Hey Bill, Been to Hawaii more times than I can count. Waikiki Beach sucks, overcrowded, dead corral to cut your feet etc, but there are areas that are ok, down closer to Diamond head and such. But, Hilton Hawaiian has a nice lagoon they just totally redid with a beach, and no salt water. They also have Paradise Pool which has the longest waterslide in Waikiki. It is close to all the action and, if you go at the right time will see all the Pro Bowl players and their families. Also, if you go at the right time, you might see some PGA stars as the Hawaiian Open is on. We used to go to it all the time. No waves on the south shore in winter so very safe for swimming. You must take you kids to the North Shore to show them REAL waves! Maybe a little Boogie Boarding? The west shore also has some great areas (sand bars) to learn to windsurf. As I said, everyone must see Honolulu at least once, but after that it is Maui, Kauai and the big Island for ever after! Having said that, the next time we go, we will spend a week at Waikiki before we hit another Island, just to see if it is the same old, same old. Debbies 50th is in Feb, need to take her somewhere special, thought about Hawaii but leaning towards Sandals Grand St. Lucia. Still debating...

Skip Honolulu, go to Maui instead. You can have your pick there of settings from city to tourist town to luxury resorts. Our kids loved it.

Sorry, it just seems kind of funny..
It was taken from the OT section . A while back there was a thing going on about people making up "Official Member of" Avatars of suspension codes ( z51,f55 etc.) like they were new Corvette models.
I have the mats so I thought I would use that avatar for awhile.
