Thanks Smook. Yes, I am going to buy a C5Z for the coming Summer and then decide if I will keep it or get a C6 Z or a new Camaro. I want one old car and one newer "fun" car in the garage
I agree on the tires as they are 6 years old and have reached the end of their safe use. Do you know what a new set costs?
If you are buying tires from WN expect to pay around $2200+ for the tires and installation.
Or, if you shop around, you could find much better deals than that, for instance instead of paying $450 a tire for the stock fronts, you could go with a Pirelli P Zero Giallo for $170 each from Tiretrends (they are like a CDN version of Tire Rack) Or instead of paying $500 a tire for the rears, go with something like the BFG G-Force for $350 per tire.
I don't see why anyone would pay a GM dealer to put on new tires, the prices are ridiculously high compared to other places.
Not a bad price but I think you can do much better shopping around privately. Getting stung with both taxes at a dealer hurts. I'm aware of two excellent condition 2004 Z16's that sold for 32-33 in the last 5 months. Great time to buy as it seems not a lot of offers being made for premium priced vettes.
I can do $1650 for Michelin Pilots, or $1900 for the original run flats.
This includes alignment, install tires and taxes.
You will NOT be able to beat that price!
I've decided to go with the original run tires on the car.

I can hook you up when you are ready.
I know that the black z06 @ WN is good low mileage car. You might be able to deal some on the car. I still feel that it's a fair price for a good car. The paint on this 2003 z06 is in excellent shape too. It's also a Canadian car, and to me that's another big bonus.
WN would alllow you to deal now and take delivery of the car later in the spring. Buying a car now is most likely the best thing to do. I do expect the market to improve and these cars are harder to fine in this shape now. Also.... it's completely STOCK.
Thanks for all of the responses guys and for the offer Smook. I will only consider a low mile, one-owner cream puff and will pay a little more to get that. I really would prefer an '04, but an '03 is a close second. I certainly wouldn't consider buying this car unless they changed out the tires as I believe it needs that to be driven safely. I also would expect some movement off of the current asking price.
I am ready to buy now, but not afraid of waiting a while as I think prices will soften further personally. The economic turmoil is just starting for us and many will need to rethink their toys this Spring.

Smook has it aced here. Take the Michelin Pilots for that price and run!
I installed them on my 02 Z06 and just love them. They beat the stock tires in all areas.
As far as that black C5 Z goes, if you can buy it for anything close to a decent price, grab it. They listed at over eighty thousand new and are worth every penny. I still have mine even though I bought a C6Z. I just can't seem to part with it and if it was my only car I would be a happy camper. By the way, unlike a regular C5, Z06's never came with runflats. They came with Goodyear F1's and a ten dollar tire pump in the trunk that you plug in to the cigar lighter.

Thanks. I purchased an '02 brand new in Dec. 2001 and loved the car, but I wasn't driving it enough to justify the depreciation hit and sold it after 2 summers with just 4,800 km on it. My only complaint was the road noise from the tires, but my partition helped that a great deal. With mint '04's at $30K US, I am definitely interested again
I also bought a partition but threw it away. The pilots have no sound to them and do not drone on you like the stockers. I have included a pic of both cars. The C6 is very refined compared to the C5, the C5 is not as fast, but the C5 my all time favorite.
I am curious about the concerns raised about the Goodyear F1's. I purchased my 03 Z06 with 3800 miles earlier this year and now have about 7000 miles on the car. The car has always been garaged, has not been outside in the sun for prolonged periods and only seen rain a couple of times in its life. Do these tires still need to be replaced given their age. Feedback would be appreciated.

there is a code on the tire sidewall that will tell you its production date.cant remember but someone will advise you i am sure.
i would never drive a call like the Z06 with tires that are over 5 years old.......not worth the risk. they will harden with age regardless of use.
as far as noise i noticed a huge improvement when i went to the bridgestone pole position on my C6 Z. much much quieter than the GY and better in wet and dry traction
There should be a 4 digit code on the sidewall of the tire. I.E. 2203...what this means is the tire was produced in the 22nd wekk of 2003. I hope that helps. As for the original tires, if all your doing is cruising then your originals are absolutely fine. Check the tires over for cracking etc and otherwise drive. If you plan to drive aggressively then change them out for the added safety. Personal opinion is the car is absolutely worth the asking price if the market was better. But since it is not there should be room to negotiate. $35K is fair and reasonable in my opinion.
The code Mike is referring to follows the DOT stamping on the side wall. The 6 year shelf life is a reccomendation from many auto manufacturers for OEM tires including Chrylser, Ford, Porsche etc. (GM will not commit). Many other manufacturers state that tires 10 years old should be dumped regardless of whether they have been used or not. Higher performance tires have a shorter shelf life due to the compounds used...
Well, I went to look at the car today and it is very, very clean with 11,160 km on it. Original owner leased it from WN and then bought it out this past Spring. All of the records, manuals, front license plate cover etc. are in the trunk. It looks like the passenger seat was never even sat in! Runs and drives great too. One of you guys need to snatch this car up fast!!!
Ooops, too late, I bought it And for $32,500 Thanks to Smook for talking with Ian and getting some background info for me. Ian, Nick and Ann were great to work with and the deal came together smoothly. I'm picking it up Friday morning...
