Yep, a couple of weeks ago, coming home from Port Colbourne to Beamsville after our club Christmas dinner.I figured O $..t!For once in my life I kept it down to a minimum on my wine intake, which is very rare for me.Told him I had some wine @ 7 pm with dinner & this was around midnight twhen we got stopped. He said that the time spread was quite sufficient ,& have a nice evening.Whew! Niagara Region has several RIDE programs going at any given time.

I rarely see them in the GTA, but they're all over the Niagara Region. Almost every time I visit my parents I see one in The Falls, usually near the 420 somewhere.
they have one every night, some nights more of course. just a tip, always say no when they ask, does not matter if u had a beer or two, to avoid the hassle, just say no and drive on. admitting to anything does not help you in any way. of course if u had more than that, you shouldnt be driving, but if you end up driving anyway, id just deny everything until they prove you wrong. theres a lot they have to do to convict you, most people dont know. and saying i just had one beer gets you pulled over for sure, i know that for a fact. ( my best friends are cops, they've told many funny stories ).

But they stick their head right in your car...they can smell it on your breath.
My Peel cop buddy told me always to say: No I have not had anything to drink officer.
He said if you said you tell them you have had anything at all to drink, they are obligated to administer further tests.
But they stick their head right in your car...they can smell it on your breath.
if they smell it, it does not matter what you say
but " by the law ", you only need to open your window wide enough that you can hear them or even if they ask for your licence only wide enough to pull your licence through.
of course " by the law " never works with cops and they're not dumb, and they will find a way to get you out legally as they always seem to be more creative than regular folks.
Have a safe season everyone. Just dont drink, or dont drive, or dont stop...
Dissappointing to hear that not that many RIDE programs out there - we were hit by a drunk Mar. 22/92 taking our then 4yr old son to his bday party. Needless to say that our lives were changed forever - my wife had vertebrae sheared off her spine, every rib broken in at least 2 and the list goes on, and on ... Btw, the guy was still drunk at 11.10 am on a Sunday morning.
My sister is with the Waterloo Region police force (20 plus years) and her advice is similar to what Mark suggested. If you are in a situation where you are going to have one or two drinks (i.e. dinner at a restaurant), take a tooth brush and tooth paste in the wife's purse and "freshen up" after dinner. Then when you get stopped, say NO with a nice fresh breath. That's her advice.
Actually there are TONS of ride programs this festive season. No less then any other year. Just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean the police are not out there enforcing drinking and driving!
