The facility, mirrored on one currently in Dubai, will be able to seat 100,000 fans, have a 1.6-kilometre oval track and a four-kilometre road course

sounds unreal ? 4km road course sounds awesome, but having 300 permanent workers will keep the cost way up for little people like myself.

Why couldn't a Canadian company/bank see the growing need for this in Canada....Could see F1 (other then Montreal)...Nascar events here in Ontario...plus the income from us Care crazy people.

Just my two cents...

NASCAR has already said "They have no intention of ever houlding a Cup Race in Canada".
Seeing who owns most of the tracks in the States I agree.

Also a lot of NASCAR Teams are losing sponsorship due to economics. Also in the 'mill' is that there will be less cars to enter next year.

Sounds like it's pretty serious and has already been moving along the development stages:

The racetrack, which has been in the works for 18 months, is slated for completion in 2010.

If anyone knows anything about this possible development - i.e mabey the name of a general contractor - I would appreciate it.

638 acres is a big chunk of land - hopefully someone living out that way might have noticed something.

I sent an email to the Kuwaiti bank that is sponsering this, but likely my email will just get dismissed.

I'd like to bid on some of the work there!!

This rumour pops up every couple of years for a race track in southern Ontario, between Niagara Falls and Fort Erie usually. Tough to put any stock in it. The Cayuga Speedway was and still continues to be a mess. That track in it's day was one heck of a track for Late Models and the occasional Super Modified race. I enjoy dirt and asphalt oval racing very much, but have to travel to the USA every weekend for quaility racing with the exception of Oshweken and Merritville in these parts anyway. Would love to see a premier track on this side of the border.

Exchanged e-mails this morning with a colleague who's working on the project. He says it's real. Also promised me an invite to the opening...

Here's hoping!

I hope they are including a smaller 1/4 or 3/8 mile oval either dirt or asphalt in the plans somewhere.Be a shame to have a new facility with no Canadian oval racers being able to use it,there isn't a series up here that has cars capable of running on a track that big.I wonder who will be racing on the 1 mile oval,Nascar won't be giving away any dates from its top three series,if the gov't bribes are high enough we may see a Nationwide or Truck Series race-oh nevermind, its not in Quebec so no "grants"! It will be tough to pay the bills with an IRL or ARCA show every now and again, good thing the sheiks have deep pockets...
