Default Who here had fiberglass connections?

Stan, was it you?

Do fiberglass hoods generally need fitting before they can be painted?

I'm comparing getting a used fiberglass hood that has already been on a car and just re-painted versus getting a new hood and having to get it prepped & painted.

Wondering if it's better to go with the used...

Thanks

Generally speaking, ALL fiberglass body parts have to be fitted first before painting, especially aftermarket ones. As for which hood to use, which will take more labour: fitting a new one or preping the old one for paint; thats a tough call without seeing how bad/good the new hood fits out of the box.

Thanks!

The used one has just been repainted... So it wouldn't even need a re-paint.

Hey Jon. Yeah it's me with the fiberglass shop. My dad's been doing fiberglass work for 40 years now.

It all depends on the quality of the hood as it comes out of the mold. Most aftermarket places that I know of don't do any finishing unless requested and even then, it's not perfect. Unfortunately, you only have to look at Corrado's hood to see it. WN did a good job but it could have been better if they spent the time to do it.

But it can be done and could be very labour intensive to get it perfect. Best to show it to my dad and he can tell you what needs to be done to get it as close to a perfect fit as can be done.

let me know if you want to drop by.

Stan.

Thanks Stan.

The used hood's in Florida (D'OH)... It'd be a trade for my stock hood plus cash. It doesn't need any prep.

I've been told it would need prep if I bought it brand new. I'm trying to see if I should get this used one or get a new one later on.

Thanks for the insight
