Default [WARNING] GPS Theft

Just thought that I should pass this along. We had our Ford Focus broken into at the Wilson Subway parking lot on Tuesday, October 14th.

Nathalie usually takes the car to school/work and leaves it there. We had gotten lazy and left the attachment arm on the windshield. This is an invite to theives who are now targeting cars for GPS theft. We lost a brand new Nuvi 270 (NA and Europe maps) which had cost me $400is in Februrary when I bought it, along with an iPod adapter for the radio. The new passenger window cost us $220 to replace. Seven or more cars had been hit at this subway parking lot and when Nathalie arrived, all of the "hit" owners were converging with insurance reps and police.

Don't expect the city to be supportive in these matters. Avoid this hassle by getting in the habit of NOT leaving it lying around.

Register your device! You can usually update your profile or call your vendor support center to advise of the theft. That way, the next time someone uses it for an update or sends it in for service, it can be tracked.

This was a major pain in the butt. don't make the same mistake we did.

not just there Pierre,14 cars have been hit in my parking lot,it is 6 floors and only one guard and a few cameras.I was advised by the security to keep my windows down a bit and nothing of value in the truck. So far 11 weeks and no incident.

I have also read where the scumbags will break in if they can see the suction cup marks left on the windshield.

Sorry to hear about the break-in Pierre.

TTC and GO parking lots always have breakins. There isn't a day here in Richmond Hill, that both GO parking lots have cars broken into.

Try and follow a few guides to prevent thieves from breaking into your car.

1. Have nothing in plain sight in the cars. Thieves look in, see nothing and most of the time, they move on to the next car.

2. Park in an area where there is lots of foot traffic. Usually by the streets or buildings.

3. Park under street lights.

4. Have a car alarm with a really loud alarm. Don't rely just on the horn.

5. Get a trunk monkey. Yeah ok, I'm just kidding with this one. If only...

One of the biggest complaints police hear about this is the "if only" complaint. We all know someone that have had their cars broken into, and we all think it won't happen to us. And when it does, we all think "if only I had done something earlier." We spend thousands of dollars on our vehicles, then hundreds for the gadgets inside. And people balk at spending a few hundred dollars to protect it.

IMO, if the TTC and the GO want us to use public transportation, they should make it safer for us. Onsite security at all parking locations during TTC and GO hours should be mandatory, including video surveillance, instead of the so called patrols that check once in a while.

Hopefully the GPS leads them right to the cop shop and then justice would be served..............I really wish people would get real jobs instead of preying on people who are trying to make a living. All as I can say if I caught them trying to rip me off they would not be needing any GPS to no where they would be going..........

Sorry to hear about your break in Pierre
The Newmarket Go Train station parking lot got so bad cameras had to be installed.
My garage was broken into Friday night / early Saturday morning and they vandalised my wifes car but left the two vetts alone. Just a big mess to clean and plus to finger printing dust all over everything
No place appears to be safe any more.
Starting to appreciate some of the US Laws lately
