I don't know if this is common knowledge yet, but I just discovered that Discount Tire ships FREE to Canada... they charge $40/tire, that includes the shipping and border taxes/duties/handling/brokerage charges. For all-season radials for your girlfriend's car this isn't such a big deal, but for big expensive sports car tires it's a STEAL!!!
I used to drive to the US to get my 18" 'Vette tires all the time... NO MORE!
I hope this gets around! I hope more large companies start doing this! Immagine if Summit Racing were to do a similar service! Having a hot rod in Canada could become AFFORDABLE!

hmm, 4 X$40 = $160, where is the free? Tire Rack charges the same and they do the same things, comes delivered to your door with no money owing.
Since seeing the 20/20 special, I want to pick out my tires IN PERSON , not order them online or by telephone. Discount tires for a Vette from 2003 are not a deal at all. I'm not saying that this is what they do, but I'm going to look more closely at the date stamp on the tires ,before buying, from now on.
Tires for corvettes don't stay in stock too long. They don't have time to erode. I ordered 4 Toyos last month from US. The date stamp was 2508. They were produced on the 25th week of 08.

Please go to Tire Rack's website and get a full quote including shipping to Canada and do the same for the same tires with Discount tire.
Goodyear GS-D3, 215/45-17 x4:
Tire Rack = $151.00/Tire, Total = $876.14
Discount Tire = $155.00/Tire, Total = $780.00
(These are tires for my Saturn, not the 'Vette)
Tire Rack charges full price for taxes, duties etc. PLUS over $100 for shipping, Discount charges a FLAT RATE of $40/Tire for EVERYTHING... this means the more expensive the tire the better the deal. Both companies operate the same way, the tires show up at your door with no payments owing.
OK, I'll do it for a PAIR of rears for the Z:
Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar, 295/35-18 x2:
Tire Rack = $345.00/Tire, Total = $900.97
Discount Tire = $341.00/Tire, Total = $762.00
It's over 18% cheaper for the same two tires with Discount even though there's only $8.00 difference in teh sale price. Go and check this out for yourself.
Getting performance tires in Canada just became reasonable! Mind you, these prices are in Canadian Dollars, so if our Dollar goes for a tumble it will get more expensive, but still much better than driving down to the 'States to get tires!
EDIT: I forgot to mension the BEST part of this whole deal... Discount tire carries Nitto, which are difficult and expensive to get in Canada. I have Nitto RIIs on my car and had to buy them State-side all the time to get a decent price. NO MORE.

This is VERY true. Tires in these sizes are not stockpiles by the squillions and then left to sit around for years in warehouses. The reason our tires cost so much is because the manufacturers make so few of them to begin with.
All season radials for your minivan? THAT may be another story...

For our neighbors to the north, we ship UPS Standard Service (five to seven days), Expedited (three day) or Express (overnight). We can accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Western Union or Postal Money Order for payment.
This means that, even if the Shipper doesn't charge anything, UPS will charge you Brokerage Fees (at least $30) and taxes (GST and PST).
The best scenario would be to have them shipped to an installer in the States, drive there with your car to get them installed, and come back to Canada. What you declare when you are coming back is up to you, but I don't think Customs will challenge you if they see lightly used tires, hence no taxes.

No, they don't charge anything else, either does tirerack. They already collect all the stupid stuff including GST.
I will say that Discount does save money over tirerack. For my 07 Z06 the rear tires were $32USD cheaper delivered than tire rack

Good to know.
Got cought once with Lloyds Mats sent to me via UPS, and I will need tires next year for sure, so I hope someone will confirm that indeed there are no more fees added at the door by UPS.

I can confirm, as I just got the tires from tirerack a few months ago, BUT, this is just for tirerack and discount tire, unless stated it does not apply anywhere else. Also, they can change their policies at anytime, so read the fine print.

Twice now, I've ordered tires from Tire Rack, (GS D3's) and had them delivered to an installer in Ogdensburg NY. Being near Ottawa, it's a short drive to get them installed and then drive them home.
Price a GS D3 from a Goodyear dealer in Canada, it'll scare you!!

RonJ ...
How much does installation/balancing etc. cost for 4 tires?
