Default what I think about gas prices

To me it doesn't matter what gas prices are, I still think it's a small price to pay for the freedom to go where I want, when I want, in the ride I want.

Maybe your independantly wealthy, and if you are congrats, but if you're the average Joe like me and most others on here, if you say the gas prices aren't hurting you, you're lieing. I drive my car ALOT, sometimes filling up more than once a week, so that's well over $100 a week, just for the vette. Not including my work truck, add that to mortgage payments, groceries, yadda yadda yadda, it's a hell of alot of money.

Am I going to stop driving my vette? No way, but does that mean I will just take it up the A$$ with these gas companies?! No way! Please don't go around saying gas prices don't matter, because it affects the whole economy, not just the average car filing up.

And I don't wanna hear the gas is cheaper than bottled water argument either, when was the last time you drank 120 liters of water in one week??

Sorry, rant over.

I'm with you on this one Corrado! The high prices won't make me drive my car any less, but it sure does hurt the wallet! Especially with mine being a daily driver and I've got an 80km round trip to work every day.

The worst part about this whole thing is that the oil companies are raking in these MASSIVE profits right now! Do they have no conscience whatsoever? Do they not see how badly these high prices are hurting the economy? It's legallized robbery, plain and simple

"unfortunately" or fortunately we live in a capitalist society and so since the market bears the gas prices, even if high, the oil companies will continue to do so. The opposite is socialism.

The oil companies will counter the high price argument by saying what about when oil was $40/barrel and they were "hurting". No doubt oil is never likely to go anywhere near that again.

It does suck, I do think they collude, but short of proving that, if they charge and we pay, that's free market for you.

Fortunately the vette gets way better mileage than my truck.

Gassing up 4 vehicals sucks up a lot of household income that could be better spent on food, clothes & education.
Wonder what they will nail us with for a tank of hydrogen down the road

The collusion sometimes seems so clear it stupid. How can every gas company have exactly the same cost for the purchase, refining, distribution and sale of gas?? Of course they don't - but yet they all sell at exactly the same price. Of course those that have lower costs could sell for less, but why should they - they all adjust their prices to the HIGHEST price and rake it in!!

Unfortunately the consumer has no power in this market - you can't reasonably avoid using the product and therefore we are stuck.

Sucks

these prices suck, I'm using Sunoco 94, which I think most Ontario vette's use...its friggen expensive, I also just squeezed $100 into the tanks a few moments ago....will I drive any less...NOOO, but I don't like filling up two cars with these prices. You guys in Alberta pay a pretty high price as well, I was in Fort McMurray last week, very high. I'm just a weekend driver with the vette, not too many nice weekends this year...high prices for fuel and crappy weather make us all unhappy when we see someone out west who can afford not to care about fuel costs.

Is your car modded? If not, then why are you using a gas that will do NOTHING better for your car than what GM recommends. Maybe your gas savings could start with your logic. If your cars is moddded (S/C, Turbo'd etc, then please disregard this whole post.)

I think he was just kind of joking, showing his car in a photoshop sort of way, and stating that his car will still be driven, we need to lighten up here.

I was listening to the talk radio media earlier today. They had "experts" from both sides (including Mc Teague of course), and you just have to conclude it's GOUGEING.

The petro spokespeople present a pretty poor case. Basically saying "so what are YOU going to do? We've got you by the b*lls."

Hey trust me, I will still drive, and ALOT (over 46,000 km on my '06, summer driven only!). But man, it's HURTING my wallet BAD!!

I just think we shouldn't just sit here and take it from them so easily. If we say 'who cares?!" they will rise it up more and more.

Actually, every LSx based Corvette needs 94 octane for it's best performance, as you'll get a few degrees of knock retard if you use 91 octane in warm weather (anyone who has done any data logging with their car when it was stock will confirm this, and I've seen it myself on mine too). So depending on how hot it is outside, you could lose as much as 10hp from 91 octane compared to 94. For the two cent per liter difference, I definitely think 94 octane is worth it.

I agree that there must be collusion within the oil sector. It’s a dam joke when I talk to some of the oil guys and they say watch, the price will be at such a $ come March (last year) and low and behold it rose to ridicules levels.

Try having a fuel bill for $6,000 - $8,000 per month! All it gets you is a whole lot of Air Miles. So I'll be dammed and write the premium off too

Sorry, not buying into that. GM's SAE rating was not done with 94 octane fuel, so the engines best performane was done with 91 octane. Even if it was as much as 10 hp on a hot day as you say, so this 10 hp helps you when your cruising down the street going for supper, now I have only 495 hp? If it was supposed to have it, GM would be telling us to put it in, they don't want to be warranting blown engines.
