Default Saw the OPP in action...

So I took my son to Ottawa yesterday to say hi to Harper. On the way on the 401 on a downhill bend, I venture upon a family sedan being hooked up to a tow truck. As I'm rolling by I see a family standing next to a tripod mounted radar and an OPP vehicle.

This was early in the morning on a wide open and not very busy section of the 401, some family trip for these guys.

Anyways, we had a great trip, my first long run in the Vette. Boy, was this car meant to be driven! And, I have never owned a vehicle that will do 440 km on half a tank!!! This was without babying the car and in fact pushing it a bit.

I look forward to my next long trip in the car

Push it a bit more and you will be amazed the mileage it gets on a flat bed (joke)

I drive every day and it has happened several times, been able to see first hand Our great tax collectors at work.. One was a lady and 2 kids in a Volvo SUV and one was a Garbage truck no no sorry I read about that one..

Ontario is getting worst my friend..

The latest Ontario Driving Statistics have been released!

Year over year ... our roads are even safer than ever!

Of course ... our latest statistics are from 2005! Why, with all the data crunching technology at our governments disposal ... does it take three years to compile these statistics??!!??

They are in no hurry to get to 2008 where they have to release all the names of the soccer moms and the vehicles ( minivans ) they were driving when convicted of street racing

I have NO SYMPATHY for people who get caught speeding, while carrying kids in the vehicle. The over 50k impounding may seem harsh & mean towards a family filled vehicle, but think of the number of fatalities from that one vehicle, should something happen.

If you can't drive responsibly, respect the safety of the passengers in your vehicle, even if you don't respect your own, than TAKE THE BUS!

Yes but the fact is there simply isn't carnage on the road of minivans going 50 over and crashing and dying. Going around yelping about "think of the children" or "save the children" doesn't mean it's actually happening. We need to look at what is ACTUALLY happening, not what could happen. If you look at what could happen you'd have to ban almost everything we do in life. Fact is life causes death. Don't take my civil liberties because I could die in my vette.

Ontario's 400 series highways are either some of the safest if not THE safest unidirectional roads in North America, and yet our police spend a huge percentage of their budgets chasing speeders. Why? It makes good news and furthers Fantino's career. Other than that it's making little difference. And while Fantino is quick to say his new law is reducing the accidents, the fact is accidents have been falling for over 30 years, so the trend would continue regardless of stupid new laws.

Couple the trend with high fuel prices and a VERY wet/rainy season of course you have drivers going slowly. A recent study in the US found a 20% reduction in fatalities due to high gas prices. People drive less and therefore there are less crashes.

Most importantly, the real issue is your erosion of fundamental rights to due process. Before 203 came out you'd get very stiff penalties including you could be charged with dangerous driving which could include jail time. There was no reason to have 203 other than for political benefit.

If your going to spout off about something have a clue as to what you're talking about. Simply driving a speed, any speed doesn't make you a danger. Study after study has provern this. More importantly people always center on the 50km part of the law but there is a ton of different reasons our OPB (Ontario Provincial Bullies ) can grab your car for, with no judge or jury.
Ontario likes to enact laws that are ridiculous, like the speed limits on our highways, that most people don't obey, and then we enforce them after a certain undetermined limit say 20km over instead of just having a reasonable limit that most will obey.

i wish the people that come up with these laws would spend the time keeping the drug dealers and gang bangers in jail. They are the real criminals, here in Calgary they just busted 15 high profiles gang members and they were all out within an hour. THEN the city spends $20 million on 200 more cops. I think that there are better ways for the police to spend there time and for law makers to spend their efforts than busting people for doing 50 over. Fact is cars are safer today than they ever were, with safety belts, ABS airbags radial tires etc etc.

We need someone like Mike Harris to come in again and undo some of the BS our current government is unloading on us.

It would seem it is all about money.

I can go on the 401 or 407 and do 140 KM, nobody cares.

On Anderson just south of me and Winchester just west of me goes from 80 to 50, police there all the time. No people around. Farm country.

My son has his G1, and in a 40 zone, two schools, grandma in a Cavalier is passing me on a solid line, I don't get it.

I drive the Corvette at 40km through there. I am all for safety but this doesn't seem to be about that, just where the most bucks are.
