Default OT: Warranty for Snap On Tools

Has anyone ever used the warranty for Snap On Tools? Normally when I break a tool I just throw it out and get a new one but this time I don't want to throw out a digital torque wrench. The gearing in it broke I'm hoping to get it repaired.

Man, you must be rich for throwing away snap on tools

Most brand name tools carry lifetime warranty anyway. They will probably replace without any questions. If in doubt, call them.

Frank, you gotta get the warranty replacements. That stuff is nice (and not cheap)

If I may explain further, normally when one of my tools break it's due to miss use, therefore I don't ask for a replacement. Not all my tools are snap on but in this case a 3/8" snap on torque wrench was used to remove a 220' foot pound bolt and the maximum setting on the wrench is 100'. FIrst off I know you shouldn't use a torque wrench to remove bolts and secondly you shouldn't use 3/8 drive. This is the torque wrench, although I don't know if they will replace miss used tools.

1. You removed a bolt with a torqeu wrench???
2. You took a 100 ft-lb wrench to 220 ft-lb limit???

I don't have words Frank. You know better...

I don't know why the manufacturers even put a 'remove' option on the torque wrenches. It should have tightening direction only IMO.

I have a few Snap On tools, and some Mac as well, the tool guys travel around in their vans and stop by to deal with our shop mechanics, when I have any problems with my personal tools they usually fix me up pretty easily. Their warranty on higher end/expensive tools is repair vs replacement, so they'd take it and send it for a warrantable repair and return it to you - if it's clearly abuse, they'll still send it out but you'll pay the repair bill. I'd probably pay to get it fixed since it's a good tool......

The way I see it and have used this method on several occasions is if I want to check to see if a bolt has been overtighten (as in the case of lug nuts, if they are overtightened the rotor can warp) I will set it to off and this will tell me the settins it's presently at.

This is clearly an abuse repair so I wonder what there repair cost would be for this model of wrench. I know which part needs to be replaced, is there a web site I can purchase this part from?

The only Snap On dealers I've dealt with work out of the Snap On Trucks. I've got another 3/8" click type torque wrench that I can use iin the mean time, or I can just use the 1/2" drive therefore I can live without it for quite a while, I just don't like having broken tools. Maybe it's just me. I don't believe they will give me a new one but I'm hoping to have this one repaired since it's only about a year old.

Yes I do have a problem missleading the Snap On guy. I don't know if I could hold a straight face. I already know which part I need, is there anyway I can order that particular part?
