An Oakville man has been charged after police spotted a driver racing two-and-a-half times the posted speed limit on the Highway 401 in a Mustang.
The OPP went looking for a speeding car after another driver called to complain about an aggressive motorist seen whizzing in and out of lanes and swerving past other vehicles in Middlesex County.
The sports car was clocked Tuesday on police radar at 154 kilometres an hour, but then evaded officers, hitting speeds above 210 km/h, police said.
Officers managed to stop the driver near Union Road. He admitted he'd driven as fast as 260 km/h on the 100 km/h posted highway, police said.
Robert Bacon, 60, of Oakville is charged with dangerous driving and evading police. He's to appear in court in London on June 23
Now he was driving a sports car (bad), but he is 60 (good?) Wonder how the judge will see this incident? He did not seem to be concerned about the new law ... guess it is not having the intended effect.
Back when I was a bad-ass BMW driver I was clocked at 154kph in a 50kph zone...it was a portion road 4 lanes wide leading to a 6 lane bridge and access to 6 lane highway...got excessive speed a $452 fine 3 points and a letter from ICBC 2 years later
Were gonna see more of them and then the deaths will start.
Yup, now that the summer driving season is under way, I think there will be more runners......pretty soon we will be seeing the plane and helicopter-shot videos on CityTV like all those infamous ones in the US....
Was driving back from Ottawa this afternoon on Hwy 7 west of Perth. Saw some poor sop in a pickup truck pulled over and there was a tow truck who was just pulling up. Poor bastid probably tried to pass some cars and went 130 in an 80 and got Pinched. I guess he should have passed much slower in the name of "safety" although that may have increased the likelihood of a head on collision.
