Well guys and gals, Thursday morning (May 8th) the new owner of the ZR1 is flying in to pick up his baby. She will be sadly missed but she is going to a good home. When I wake up tomorrow I will wash her for the last time and detail her for the long journey home. It will be tough not seeing her in the garage and very mixed emotions right now. Whats worse is the ZR1 reunion and gathering is going on as we speak in BG and I didn't go. I feel like I kinda betrayed a friend especially since I really love the Z06.. Oh well. Thanks to everyone for the memories I have with the ZR1 and looking forward to making new Vette memories with this group in the Z06. About lunch time tomorrow I'll take a short cruise part way up the 400 to see her off for the last time
a ton of us loved that car, sad to see it go... but the new owner sounds like he'll appreciate it as much as you did. Now concentrate on your "stock" Z06
Mr Mike, I know the feeling, it does hurt. We'll all miss that beast, I still remember the time you hammered it in front of me at the end of the season in 2006 on the Forks of the Credit cruise. Sounded badass!
The good news is you sold it to someone who will appreciate it as much as you did. Plus you have another Corvette, so there's no betrayal. take one final cruise, stare at it one long last time, then say goodbye. But now its time for the new ride to take over.

You've got the next generation ready. It's about trading up.
Sweet dreams.
I like the new model better too!
zB.
thanks smook, I forgot what the topic was about now.
Oh ya Zr-1's. Mike, you'll get her back one day. Some on here prob. think, "it's a car, get over it" but they don't know the feeling of having something that's been with you in all aspects of life. Almost like a pet. People that don't have them don't understand. Enjoy the new Z as that will help a bit but I understand your feelings of loss.
Interesting thread. I've had different reactions parting with different cars. When I bought the 2003 Vette, my Jaguar XK8 vert sat in the driveway for a week or so before I returned it to the leasing company. I had no interest in driving it, and it got all covered with tree crap etc. My new wife said "Poor Jaguar, it's being treated like an ex-wife, when you've moved on to something better!"
On the other hand, when I was at the Porsche dealer picking up my 911 last month, I watched with a pit in my stomach as the wholesaler circled like a vulture around the Corvette I had just traded in and took my plates off of it. I felt like I was abandoning it.
But, I got over that quick ....

You have to match apples to apples, what if it's the other vette you were leaving at the dealer?

I don't think it matters when it comes to cars. I had my Camaro Z28 from new for 10 years. And I felt like I was abandoning it too. Like the car has feelings. It's been almost a year since I've had the vette and I still get a knot in my stomach when I think about the Camaro, which is almost everyday. I just hope the car is getting as much TLC as when I was it's owner.
Well I have space in my garage again.....could easily fit a bike now and still have plenty of staorage.
I cruised with the new owner and we hit the Tim's on Trafalgar and 401 for a coffee. Funny how you don't realize some things. The ZR really sounded awesome. I only heard it from inside but did shoot a quick video of her leaving. New owner was grinning from ear to ear!
