Default Toronto roads suck!

We was having a good day until a big truck driving in the opposite direction launched a large rock in my direction.
Its hit with such an impact that I thought the windshield was going to shatter completely, the girlfriend let out one of those spin
tingling screams as it was headed in her direction.
But lucky (if you can call it that) as it only took a chunk out of the window and left a golfball size starburst and did not go through the glass.

Just when we where all complaining about the potholes in our roads and they go and rip them up
and then leave huge sections of rough road for weeks or enjoyment.

I hope to have it fixed tomorrow if the new window comes in they are looking for $450 for the window installed.
Then the guy tells me that if the trim gets damaged then they need to replace that also and its $525 from the dealer.
Go figure, more for some GM metal trim then the whole windshield with hud compatible and built in antenna.

Once again TO roads suck!!

Makes you think about keeping the roof in all the time - yikes

Agree about the roads - worst year I can ever remember - David Miller must be proud with his "balanced budget" and all

It may be too little to late about road debris, but here is a list of road projects set for this year, in T.O. At least you can avoid these areas, by navigating around, should you find yourself travelling through the city.

should try Alberta roads,,,they spread gravel on the roads in winter insted of salt...and gravel mixed with tar to fill the cracks(called Chips ) in the summer
Murphys law says your new car will usually have a cracked windshield within a week of delivery

Well figured I would get the new windshield installed today but the one they had in stock was scratched
Now any of the glass installers I have called says there is no stock in Toronto, Ontario or even Quebec unless I want a China made part Never!

I called the dealer that the car was purchased from and they checked for an OEM glass. There is none in Canada for a 99 Coupe with Hud and built in antenna.
The OEM glass is $1700 from the dealer and $525 for the trim (if damaged on removal) $60 for the rubber plus install

Never thought that there would not be an spare OEM windshields anywhere in Canada. My next option in PPG glass that will need to be ordered and made that
will take 2 weeks for delivery

Why don't you order the parts from the USA. Fred Beans, forum vendor has these available.

Left side Trim Reveal Mouldings 75.83
Right side Trim Reveal Moldings 75.83
OEM Windshield 730.01

I'm sure you can find a glass shop in Buffalo or Niagara Falls that would allow it to be shipped to them and you pay them for the install. The whole thing could end up under a Grand with a little luck.

Hope this helps. I feel your pain!

Glad you both are fine but just reading this post is giving me a sick feeling, so I can imagine your thoughts. Where the bloody 'ell are our taxes going, I'm not a big political party supporter but I do think McGuinty is trying to help To. by trying to ply some of our tax $ from Harper. Now that we're being called a have not province we are still getting screwed.

Thanks guys, Yes the insurance has a limit for fixing the trim if it is damaged on removal. They and the dealer said that it will usually come
out in good shape but if someone previously has replaced the glass and used too much silicon to put it back in then it can get damaged on removal.

My insurance co. had a limit of $1350 for the glass, $60 for the rubber trim and $525 for the moulding and replacement of it, labor or $150 or
something like that. There was one windshield that was avaliable but it had a scratch in it so I did not want to take it and China glass was a

As for getting the glass from the US was thinking about that option but anything above insurance guidelines I pay out myself.
The dealer price they gave me for the OEM on a 99 coupe with HUD and built in antenna was $1400?

They have one hopefully coming in next week or the following for me from PPG or have to wait for GM as its backordered.
