Default O.p.p Eye In The Sky

Hey Everyone,

Just a reminder that the OPP's eye in the sky goes into service today...it's probably in the sky as I right this post. Full story available in the following link.

Officers will be able to keep an eye on hundreds of vehicles at a time from a Cessna 206 that will hover over the 400-series highways.
I'd like to see them try, OPP wont have an eye in the sky for long

Nice toy for them to play with. Same thing when they had Z28 Camaro's as chase vehicles. Both were written off within a year or so.

Wonder if the money for this plane would be better spent putting actual uniformed officers on the road.

Actually, they have had a plane in the air since last August. It was a rental to test out the feasibility. I guess they figured it worked for them and moved ahead with the purchase.

They can afford it now, guess where all the 50km over money is going. And if Fantino gets his way again, the "street racing" limit will be lowered to 30km over. They better call in the army, that is the regular flow of traffic speed on every highway I've been on, except in rush (or stop) hours of course.

<< yawn>> this is all getting soo old. I cant wait for our police force to start wearing state trooper hats too.

New black and white cars
Unmarked chase vehicles
New red and blue lights on top
New planes
Crazy Laws...

Almost like we just saw our police force transformed and ready for a made for tv special.

Whatever...

I think it's a great idea for the police farce to be up in the sky with an airplane at a couple g's daily ($$), where it's nice and safe, instead of down here on the ground on either foot patrol, or motor patrol trying to stop violent crime.....

Cool toy is right. I wonder if they still have their tour bus.

I had the opportunity to go for a ride in Durham Regional's helicopter a few years back. So we're hovering over Simcoe St in Oshawa and the
cop says to the the pilot: "hey, that's one of those new SSR pickups"
pilot: "ya, those are cool"
cop: "looks like he's going a little bit fast though"

Cop get's on the radio and no fewer than 5 cruisers come from all directions and pounce on this SSR.

Good use of resources, huh?
  • 1 helicopter,
  • 5 cruisers,
  • 6 cops (at least) and
  • 1 helicopter pilot...

...to stop a speeder.

I swear they fly by my area every day in the summer. Just saw it the other day. It's a black helicopter, right?

I now expect with the new plane and the 50km over rule that the traffic deaths in the TO area will drop bigtime this year?
Because they would never do this just to generate cash and not forget the real problems like tailgating, no signal lane changes and red light runners.............right?

Naw it'll probably go up. Every time someone doing the flow of traffic (~120) and sees a small plane over head they will slam on the brakes and the tractor trailer behind him will take him out
