Default Techron substitute in Canada ??

Anyone know of a good substitute for Techron that can be used that's available in Canada?

I've tried a couple different products, but they didn't seem to work, my gas gauge still drops to empty when it gets to between 1/2 & 1/4 full.

thanks

Don, as far as I know Techron is a cleaner, are you hoping for it to fix your sending unit?

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. A lot of the US guys swear by it.

Techron will help but what helped for me was NOT using Petro or Shell gas.. the sulphur content was too high or something like that and was causing mine to do it as well. Since Ive switched to Sunoco or Esso, it never happens, going on a couple years now.

I thought about the gas bit because normally I do buy Shell, but the last 4 fill-ups I've been using a different station and the problem has gotten worse. Before, the gas gauge would go dead only occasionally when the tank got really low (ie at the low fuel warning), and now it's doing it every time once the tanks hits about the 1/2 full mark.

try JUST sunoco for the next month. Tons of vettes went through this and dealers replaced sending units, clusters and a bunch of other things and it would still drop[. Before I went through all that, I switched gas....and as I said, its been fine.

Er, we don't have Sunoco's out here in the wild west.

I asked the parts guy at GM about this and he said that it isn't just Corvettes with the problem. I was looking for Techron and wondered if he had any info. My 02 Z has been doing this off and on for a couple of years. Driving along with a half a tank and the bells and whistles go. He told me that when I put it up for the winter (this was last fall) I should pour in about four bottles of GM injector cleaner. No problems since.

I didn't know that. Is this more of a problem with C5's & C6's
or all generations?

Why dont you just fill up at chevron??!!

Shell did it to me too, didnt have a choice-no chevron up in FSJ.
Since Ive moved and use chevron exclusively,I have no issues.

Same here! My fuel gauge would drop to zero a lot when I first got the car and was using Shell, but I've been using Sunoco almost exclusively since then and it's been probably two years since my fuel gauge acted up on me. I never add fuel injector cleaner.

Never thought to check if GM had a recommended product.

C5's of the vettes mostly but other GM vehicles too. My buddy's wife's Suburban(?) does it all the time too.

Techron removes the sulphur deposits that build up on the sending units from poor quality gas or gas with elevated sulphur content. Found out about it at a tech session at Carlisle last year. It is readily available in the US including Walmart. I picked up a bunch for myself and others last year on one of the trips over the border.

This post from last year was indicating that it should be available now over here.

We have Chevron out here in BC. I use Chevron 94 octane exclusively but still had the gauge problem with my C5.
