I am looking at getting a lift but not sure which way to go, 2 or 4 post. I built a garage that is has a 12 foot ceiling height and the overhead doors hug the ceiling. The main use would be for winter storage so maybe 4 post, but to “play” and install mods would a 2 post be better?
Bill: Love what's inside your garage. I really like the ramp's you built!! (homemade?).
Frank
Thanks, made them from 2x12 and 5/8 OSB. There is a great thread on how to make them on the fourm. I made them higher and now I have to use a short piece of 5/8 OSB just before the ramp but no biggy.
Has to be 4 post 4 storage, I have the slider air jack built for this used hoist I bought and installed in my garage at home. I have left the car on four jack stands for a month with tires off and worked on the car with no problems. I like the security of the winter months knowing the car is safe and secure that and having four cars going in and out of the garage all winter with only two doors!
I have a Superior 4 post lift that the vette sits in all the time. Currently the lift is on the side of the garage with the single door and my Mercedes CLS 500 is parked under it. My winter car (Ford Escape) and the wife's Land Rover are parked on the double door side. I prefer the 4 post because with the casters on I can push the lift acroos the garage by myself when I want to move it and also the full length ramp\tread allows me to use it to lift my motorcycle.
i just spoke with a rep from this company...sounds like a nice lift they make...they have 5 000 000$ product liability..the cables they use are rated to 14000lbs, you can get a 110 or 220 v motor, the ramp locks out every 3.5" and when it is lowered it is 4" height to the ramp with a 36" long ramp..there are also 1/2" pins to lock it out when you are leaving the car on the ramp for longer peroids of time...he said they have a showroom in Oakville with all the lifts set up and operational to see..install and delivery is 550$..they are also on casters so it can be moved around if need be...
Thanks for the info, where did you get the "Superior" from?
I have called Speciality Automotive Group, "SAG", (Greg) on an EX version 6'3" for $4950 but had talked to Greg before your post, I like the idea of the casters. A buddy of mine is a car collector and he has the "SAG" lifts and he is very happy with them however he purchased his (8) before the company was sold to a new owner.

The Superior lift was bought about 3 or 4 years ago on a group purchase on the forum. If I was looking to buy a lift right now I would get a Specialty Auto Lift 7000 that is built here in Calgary.
I have a three friends who have bought their lifts from David and from what I can tell there are a few things that are better than my lift that cost a lot more. With respect to casters, I can push the lift across the garage with the car on it.
Let me know if you want to swing by the house and have a look.
David sold the company to Greg and David still has the car storage area out by me. Greg seems like a nice fellow, I'll ask him about the 7000 series with the casters. My buddy Loren also says to get the Specialty Lift.
