But if you're importing a vehicle have the dealer you bought from produce it off the GMVIS system and have him put on his dealership stamp. I heard it's been accepted and usually FREE from the dealer.

Frank

Yeah I am buying privately Frank so no getting around the fee. Just seems like a cash grab by the manufacturers.
I am in SE Edmonton. Fountain Lakes area. Frost heaves like moguls on the way into my subdivision. It is like an autocross getting my sportscars home without grinding the front ends. Can't wait until mid June when they finally get all the rock off the roads

I tried that...not accepted by RIV...now this may be just a special case...but none the less it was not accepted...

Had to pay the $250.00

The dealer I bought from produced the letter --which seemed pretty plain at the time--and I did not know if it would due--so I Emailed to RIV and they said that was acceptable???---it was taken off the GM website by the dealer--seemed simple enough.

Maybe they do maybe they don't. But it's worth giving it a try (costs just your time and might save you some $$). Have the private party go to a local US dealership and with the VIN have them call up GMVIS and get the document.

I got mine approved by RIV without any problems about six weeks ago. I reckon they seen several hundred GM VIS print outs a day so they should be pretty familiar with it.

What did you end up buying Mike and where from? I remember you were looking for a red 07 a couple of months ago. There is a nice Monterrey red06 in Florida that I was looking at. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1890462 Probably very close to what you bought.
