Are there any vendors out there who have free shipping for Canadians? I've noticed lots of places have free shipping throughout the USA...but not Canada. I understand the fact that most vendors are located in the US and that is why they get free shipping...but what about us?
I'm just guessing here, but I'd think they don't do it due to the need to clear Customs (i.e. charges to import into Canada). Now if UPS could figure out a way to bill shipping to the vendor and Customs to the purchaser, they'd probably do it. Right now, I think the couriers either the vendor pays everything or the purchaser pays for everything. Do I sense a biz opportunity here LOL
Even if they give you free shipping it usually comes via UPS and then you are screwed. They can't legally charge for collecting GST or PST so they nail you with a "brokerage fee" even though there is no duty and hasn't been any for years, and no broker is required. Whew! Rant over...

Corvette Central has a system where they send it UPS and they charge you absolutely nothing at the door - they act as the broker. You just pay the actual shipping cost. I have ordered from them before and it's great. The problem is that most of the time they have "free shipping in the USA" promotions...but not any for promotions for us Canadians.

Have used this before and it works great as everything is taken care of by C/C. Must really piss off UPS. Sometimes they even have free shipping but it is hard to tell when.

They offered free shipping to Canada back in November, I got my gas tank then.
I managed to hit them on one of their free shipping deals a while back and ordered a complete exhaust system for my wifes 78 S/A. Mufflers, pipes, the whole works and it all showed up with no extra charges. I was pretty impressed by that.

You are close to being correct, they ( UPS ) do charge you ( they collect for the Canadian govt) GST and PST and then charge you an additional $35USD for this brokerage service. Yes they are a rippoff but we Canadians should be used to by now
When our dollar was was 65cents I bought a set of headers from the states for 200USD, by the time I got them at my door it was nearly 600CND, but still cheaper than the high performance parts house down the road that was ripped me off for more than that by 10 %
MotorHead,
The problem is that if you need a 2 dollar part you get the hidden $35 fee. If you need a 2 thousand dollar part the fee is not $35. Its more...way,way more...
I live an hours drive from the New York border .Why does Willcox (located in Indiana)charge $9.68 shipping to New York ,$22.04 to Ontario and Ecklers (located in Florida) $12.84 for the same part shipped to Ontario ,and I still have to pay taxes when I pick up the item .To save a buck or two on a part is foolish if I have to pay an additional $13.00 on shipping .It takes the same amount of time and effort for both companies to ship the same part .
Even if we could see FAIR shipping charges that would be a start.
Man it feels good to vent !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of these vendors need to step up and offer us Canadians more free shipping offers. Yeah, I know, it is never going to happen because there are too little of us to "make a difference." Hopefully some of the vendors are reading this thread and understand what I am trying to say. I have paid a crap load of money sfor shipping, and I always ship USPS so I don't get charged brokerage...but it takes forever for me to get my parts.
We are small time customers to the USA. Most don't really care. The best option is CBI. Send your goodies there and pickup whenever you want to go over. When you come back tell Canada customs what you are bringing back. You pay the PST and GST and that's it. While over in the US you can fill up with some cheap gas. Yes gas is still cheaper in the US even though the gallon is smaller.

It does kinda suck though - other than paying shipping prices, I love Canada

You are correct it is based on the value of the package. Seems to be more work and brainpower for UPS to figure out taxes on a $1000 package than on $100 package so they figure the brokerage fees should go up.
Never get anything shipped UPS under $500, but as the value goes up the brokerage fees actually start to become less of a an annoyance for example for a $5000 shipment the brokerage is $71.45. So for real expensive stuff I will still use them, you get tracking numbers, it usually arrives in one piece and you have to pay shipping anyway
PS I have been at this a long time and apart from sneaking it across in your trunk your gonna pay one way or the other
( NO TAXES !!! , NO BROKERS FEES )
Hey , Just a "Friendly " poke but ...........
Move closer to the USA . I live 40 miles from Detroit and have my friend who takes flowers to Fedex and UPS in Detroit , pick up my parts
NO BROKERAGE Fee and if you keep it under $ 300, usually its " Go Ahead " from Customs ( NO TAXES !!! , NO BROKERS FEES )
Not only that but ...........
You can root for the RED WINGS and save all that frustration at looking at the box scores and seeing your hockey team won't make the playoffs again ( LOL )

I will look for anybody else but UPS for shipping to Canada from now on. The month of November was the last straw.
