In the case of GM, the company has decided that the Corvette 2008 built for the American market was not admissible into Canada as it does not meet the CMVSS 215 principally (nor to CMVSS 108 and 114) and they are telling us that the Corvette cannot be modified to become compliant to Canadian Standards.

GM saying the car cannot be modified to be compliant is hard to believe. There is a Canadian model so what is impossible to change?
The immobilizer issue is behind us and this is nothing more than another vain attempt by GM to extort profits from Canadians. The 07 MY is admissible witha change in bumper absorbers and there was no mention of cmvss 108(lighting). I doubt anything else has changed on the car for 08. The VAFUS list originally listed 08's built before Sept 1/07 as admissible. If enough of us voice our concerns or suspicions to Transport Canada maybe they will call GM's bluff. I suggest an email to Dan Davis or even a phone call. DAVISDA@tc.gc.ca or 613-998-1956.

Real mature stuff going on here, we wake up and realize GM has been ripping us off for 20-30 grand on a Vette and now they won't sell us a Vette anymore ? Somebody gotta go to GM and slap someone in the beak
Don't buy anything from G.M.! Vote with your Dollars! Tell your dealership every chance you get. If you belong to a Corvette club, make it an agenda for the club to get signatures and send a petition to GM Canada stating our membership, friends and family will boycott all G.M. vehicles. Call your M.P.
We need to keep making noise on this issue!
I for one will not buy a new vehicle or even parts in Canada until the prices are similar (translated, not worth the trouble to go south). Tired of being ripped off.

But they are similar now! Wilson Niblett is advertising new 07 Corvettes for $49,995. Keeping in mind that the base Corvette here is equivalent to the 3LT package in the US, that price is not too far off what it costs in the US. It's a $20,000 reduction off MSRP! If you ask me, that's a pretty good start on GM's part!
I honestly don't know what more you guys think they can do. They aren't going to give away the cars for nothing.

Remember an 07 Vette is a 1-1/2 years old. 09's will be out soon. They are discounting because they can't get rid of them and the 08's have more HP same money down south.

The 09s are not going to be out soon, they won't hit the streets until at least July, so that's 7 months away.
I can't understand why GM would build the same car to 2 different specs both for sale in North America? Is it worth the aggravation and cost to save 1/8" of styrofoam? And for whatever electronic differences there are (immobilizers or lights or whatever) I bet the cost delta would be negligible to just put the highest standard piece on every car.
True, except that is really only max 4 driving months (except for a few guys such as yourself).
But we're not talking about "driving months" here, we're talking about new car sales, and in the sales business 7 months is a long ways away. I wouldn't really consider the 09s as "coming out soon" by any stretch of the imagination, and I still think the deals GM is offering on 07s right now are killer! And don't forget the 08 Z06 deal from Markville for only $73,000! Sure the 07s are one model year old now, but they are still technically new cars and they are selling for cheaper than most of the used ones in the Auto Trader right now! (I do feel sorry for anyone trying to sell a used Vette right now, they are taking a beating!)
No matter how much GM has been ripping us off in the past, you have to agree they are making huge strides right now to rectify the situation.
Definitely agree with you Pat. There was no way the pricing difference was going to be corrected in one shot and it's nice to see an attempt. What will be real interesting will be the Canadian pricing of the ZR1 and new Camaro compared to US pricing. It's a chance for GM to make a further correction or just tick us off again!
