Well now that the first bout of snow, sleet, slush, freezing rain, etc. hit the road this morning, I had to drive the ol' Grand Prix GTP to the store today, and my baby is napping snuggly down in the underground parking ... I've been thinking about repairing the curb rash off of my (2) sets of rims ... and my Manager at my store walked into my office with today's Sun article about 'Carcone's', and how they refinish rims.
Anyone have direct experience with Carcone's? The article, and their website, have given me a warm fuzzy feeling ... but I would prefer to get as much info. as possible before taking my first set of rims over to them.
If you have curb rash on 2 sets of rims (8 rims!!!), I'd spend money on some driving lessons instead
J/K, I checked their prices for my van. Refinishing was slightly cheaper than buying another set. If it's for the G/P, you can probably pick up some nice used ones. If it's for the Vette, it might be worth it.
Whoever owned my car before me curbed 3 of the rims. There were also some stains on the rims, which I suspected to be brake dust that was left on the car.
My dealer sent them to Carcones to be refinished under warranty. They did an excellent job. The rim was also powdercoated instead of just painted.
The best part is, all the curb rash that the previous owner put on them are completely gone.
Mark I have used them as recent as this summer on a set of wheels that I could not believe they repaired! It was cheap and they had it repaired in less than 2 days. I highly recommend them. The guys were great to deal with as well.
Mark, if you use them, PM me and let me know what they charge and if you were happy with them... I have a small curb rash that I'd get them to do..
not that Im lazy, but I wonder if they would do a complete polish of all my wheels (inside and out) to get them back to that mirrored look.. it takes me hours to do one wheel ...ick
I've had a set of '90 wheels refinished by then and they did a SUPERB job! I would use them again in a heartbeat! Great quality work, very reasonably priced, and super-fast turn around time.
I had my 300ZX wheels redone a few years back. The first time they had bubbles in the clear coat, back they went. When they came back the second time the cardborard box flaps were stuck to the top of the wheel faces, as they had put the wheels in not fully dry... left a nice finish on the wheels.
I personally went up to complain, and they redid them AGAIN, but also refunded my money.
I also sent two other mint ZX original wheels to them just to reclear, as they were never used , with just the CC yellowed. They sent me sent me someone elses wheels...my mints gone!
