I currently own a '90 6 spd and I am considering some modifications . I have an old 400 block in the garage and am thinking of installing that in the car with a miniram. One of the things that is holding me back is the uncertainty of any upcoming smog laws. Has anyone heard anything that I should be aware of? It's either put some money into the engine to get the performance I desire or I should just get a ZR-1? Any insight would be appreciated. I live in Alberta, by the way.

If u use the right cam/heads/exhaust u will be just fine with that 400 torq monsta. My 383 with no smog pump and high flow cats passed the GA/USA emmissions with ease. Buy retrofit lifters and throw a hyd roller cam something like GM305 u be just fine with emmissions. I like the ZR1's but its too expensive for modding except headers/heiback chip and other bolt on mods.

Thanks for the response, I'm not sure about the cam you are referring to?
In Ontario how do you get inspected? Is it just a tailpipe sniff, or do they consult a manual to see what should be there for emissions equipment in the first place?
If I dump $8-10K into a car and smog laws come along and I've thrown that engine combo out the window, I won't be too happy. I just have always loved a ZR. Maybe I'm just looking for a reason.
