Default The aftermath:

One of my electricians bought a Volvo XC90 out of Boston--brought up thru Lewiston last Friday---saved $41,000.00 bucks---BUT he went to the dealer in Kitchener inquiring information on warranty issues and was told that labour would be $396.00/hour--irregardless of what Volvo paid and they could only work on the vehicle if no other Canadian VIN # Volvo or Land rovers where present in the shop!!! All labour had to be paid cash up front--no credit card, no debit card--JUST CASH--No loaner vehicle or other standard customer options would be excercised with this individual. Yet phoned a dealer in Mississauga and was greeted warmly and was told he would be serviced accordingly!!! Do ya think they are pissed????

2 sides to a dealership...upfront (sales) and in the back (service).. both have their their own P&L's.. big deal, so you didnt sell the car, can you blame the guy for wanting to save 40k.. at least you could do is be a good dealer and earn a buck in the back.. that dealer in Kitchener is an emotional business man... his loss

Lawyer in my office bought an '07 Audi TT from a dealer in Chicago 2 weeks ago and saved 25k. He went in to Audi to get the winter maintenance package and they refused him service outright!

Give Revenue Canada a call.I'm sure they would be interested in hearing about how that dealership would only accept cash...

At that price I would hope you can hire an Engineer to do it.

Let me guess, a CAD so you can blue print the engine so you know exactly where to find the oil cap and plug. A calculator to determine how much force is required to unscrew the oil filter and countless numbers of tools so you can reverse engineer a new oil plug should you strip the threads. Right?

One of my staff called Ford (owns Volvo) and was told they have no issue with Warranty or service on an imported car. Ford said to call them if any dealer did not cooperate

Case law is out there guys. They can't refuse to service. Look in the booklet...if it say warranty anywhere in North America.

The volvo guy should file a complaint with the dealer association. Same with the Audi guy.

Default Change of events--24 hours later

The said electrician went out to the dealership today---to vent his anger and frustration with the dealership---and was ushered into office of service manager and assured that all was a mistake and that he should not have been copied on said Email--that he will be treated fairly and as a premium customer??? They also asked that he destroy the email??? I think I would be tucking that one away!!!! Amazing what 24 hours will do to ones judgement!!!!
