As I was driving to the GTG at Chapters today, I was mindful of speed and traffic. I got at the Queensway exit on the 427 South, my usual route. At the light I went right when I spotted her - Officer "J" and her Metro cruiser.
DOH! I just looked up and saw the "No right on red" sign and thought to myself "when did this thing show up". I honestly have done this right several times and never noticed it until now. I had immediately pulled in and turned on my 4-ways when she signaled me with her finger to move up.
What an IDIOT I am thinking to myself as I apologize to the officer for my infraction. I hand over my paperwork to her after her questions concerning my record, etc. where I assure her that she should find me with a clean record (still apologizing and sucking up big time). She looked fairly young and I also noticed another officer in the cruiser - possibly her senior officer.
After a few minutes she returned to my car telling me that she liked my attitude and my car so she was going to make me an offer.
First choice:
$130 moving violation with 3 points.
Second choice:
$100 paper infraction for failing to sign my registration. She later lent me her pen to sign it.
"I'll take the $100 for zero points Vana" I tell her. She laughed telling me that she liked my attitude and my understanding of the infraction. I told her that I really dug her tongue piercing (truth). She confided that no one ever notices that. This old dog doesn't miss too much as SHWIMBO will attest. By the way, did I mention that she was hot?
I took the ticket and her suggestion to contest it in court. I think that she had to give me "something" as she may have been in training - I am not sure.
You got lucky for sure! I just went to traffic court last week for making a right in downtown TO at Bay and Richmond. I had no idea that you couldn't make a right there as I never go downtown and the sign was in the center of the road rather than on the right were I would have expected it to be. Anyway, ticket was $112 or something like that and 2 points. 4 cars where all pulled over at the same time as me, so it was pretty obvious that this was a popular location to hand out tickets. The officer was nice enough and told me to go fight the ticket....which was the first I had received in over 20 years! A year later I go to court, you walk up to the prosectur and tell him who you are, he looks at your infraction and offers a lower fine etc. I got $60 and no points...as did just about everyone else in court. You see, of the 25 people there, at least 15 were there for the same infraction as me, at the same intersection, and on the same morning!!! I was out of there within an hour. If I were you I'd just pay the $100. My $60 ticket actually cost me $80 after other fees that they add on. so with parking, time, etc. it wouldn't be worth it to me if points weren't involved.
Just curious Pierre why did they cancel it? The officer not show up?
In the thread, I wrote that the officer offered me the choice of $130 and 3-points for the illegal right turn or $100 fine and no points for failing to sign my registration. She also recommended that I contest it and have it dropped - exactly what I did.
