Default Is the OLD Gang Still reading???

On the weekend we had a chance to talk to a member about the Forum.

We both wondered "What happened to the old gang from a couple of years ago that met a couple of times a year to go on cruises and end up at either a restaurant or a house for a BBQ".

It also seemed if the was a lot more Corvette talk.

Let the flames begin.

I agree Gary. When I first joined the forum it was to speak with other people who also loved this amazing car. Within the first few months after I joined, I attended a fall colours cruise, a bbq at someone's house and a Christmas party at someone else's house, among other things. However, in the past year things have really changed in the Canadian section and the majority of posts are off topic and totally unrelated to the car. Let's get it back to the way it used to be.

Hey Cathy,

I am fairly new to the site as well. I joined back in May of 2006. I find that the Canadian side has always been about more than just the car. I figure that the rest of the Corvette Forum is dedicated to the car and anything and everything to do with it. Here at least, there is a chance to discuss other things with people who have a commonality. Which is "the car".

We plan monthly get togethers.... they may not be at a person's home, but we still meet up and talk for the most part about our cars and the Corvette lifestyle.

We also plan many cruises during the driving season some just for fun others are for charity. Look in the 2007 events sticky for some of the events that are planned. I even had a great group of people up to my cottage for a cruise this summer and it was open to anyone that wanted to drive up there.

As far as off topic goes.....It's the winter and not a lot of corvette stuff is happening so we talk about other things that interests us but we are all still joined by one common thread here.....the "CAR"

If not for this section I would not have met some great people, made some excellent friends and enjoyed some amazing experiences with such friends.

These are just my thoughts Cathy and are not meant to offend anyone. Any similarities to actual people or events is purely coincidental and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of this station.....

Jay

p.s. Cathy.....why not come out to our next pints and bites and meet some of the people that I talk about??

it was also primarily the old C3 group that met on the C3 area of the forum, and later pushed for a Cdn. Section. When Flavio (Superfast80) and I started these get togethers 5 yrs. ago it was different, not better or worse just different. We thought of ourselves as the No-Club club in a way then as more got involved it just changed. Other than sharing a name and heritage there isn't much in common with the C1 - C3's as the C4 - C6 so whereas we talked more about Holley/Rochester/Carter body off's, dual vs sidepipe, Merlin, MountainMotor, George the new group is more social based. Flavio used to call us enthusiasts vs owners and he had a good way of explaining it that I just could not due. Do I miss some of our old C3 group - yup, Dwayne, Jack, Flav these are great guys and a lot of fun. Hell Superfast80 and the Cayuga/Dunnville area stories are enough to start me smiling again. Wayne is still building up the '80 and in 10 yrs. he'll have built 5 more small blocks each outdoing the other and plenty of the "regulars" on here now will likely be keying in the same thread of remember when. Smook will have bought another 25 vettes, it's a passing hobby for some a passion for others. The C3 forum had much the same conversation the other week in wondering where the old guard had gone. Most of the ones I still know and keep in touch with still drive their vettes just moved on from this forum - no different from music, producing, education forums that I have been involved with over the years as ppl come and go on a regular basis.
This Cdn section really isn't much of a true Cdn. section anyway when you look at the posts, it is more of a GTA bulletin board. Very few posts from the rest of Canada.

Hi Cathy, while i'm a really recent member, I am all over the forum participating in conversations however have bonded with this crew the most. While as Jay pointed out the winter is blah time and we have strayed to more OT subjects it is only because we have already covered the topics - winter projects (mods/repairs), etc. I myself being a recent owner have asked several "on topic" questions about mods and just plain old maintenance that I am sure the guys have heard over and over again. Instead of being flip and telling me to research on my own or go read another thread, they took the time to answer my questions sincerely...okay so some ribbing happens but all in fun and comraderie.

When we meet in person the number one topic is our Vettes and what we are going to do come spring and summer.

Time marches on and forums have members that come and go. Topics for discussion are created by the members...it only takes one post "on topic" to start the wheel rolling....

I hope to meet you at an event soon...

Yes, the CE section has changed over the past few years, and harking back to the original C3 guys who kick started this whole section, the difference must be even more noticeable to them over time. But is that a bad thing...I personally don't think so.

I too have met alot of good people here...many of whom I enjoy sharing time with, whether we're talking Vettes or not. For others who I have less in common with, I try to celebrate what commonalities I do share with them and move on. As long as they respect my point of view, they get the same in return.

I've met some real jerks too but they are out numbered 10 to 1 in this group and I have just grown to ignore guys like Maymyvetteliveforever

Now that I think about it Gary, isn't this an OT topic

I'm still here. Although I was one of later Shark pack non club member I did brows before becoming a CF member and Corvette owner. I remember you guys tried to setup your own forum.
I think when the summer weather returns you'll see more of the original people back.

Personally I think the Canadian Section finally came alive; I've met a ton of great people and am very greatfull for the opportunity. The "car" may have brought us together but the friendships make us keep coming back.

I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm still here!! The "old" gang, mostly C3 guys, did indeed get this section created, specifically Flavio (aka:Superfast80). Times have changed, people's interests and/or priorities change. Flavio got married, had kids, and changed careers; Mike's car broke and has sat for a few years and he has bought a new house and is getting married; Dwayne sold his vette and bought a Harley I think; Mark is busy living and enjoying his new life with his new wife after escaping his previous regime; blah blah you get the idea. I remember when there was no Canadian section, and I knew all these guys then, so I guess that makes me part of the "old gang". If you want to blame anyone for exposing the Canadian section to the rest of he forum and the increased traffic here, well I guess you can blame me; a few years ago I took it upon myself to post in the various sections letting people know the section existed as well as PM'ing anyone who had a Canadian location in their avatar. This section went from fewer than 20 people to the more than 200 that I have counted visiting here since then! Change is good! I have met many more people and made good friendships because of it!

Cathy
This forum is still full of people who love their corvettes, that hasn't changed, except there are alot more of them now. There are planned bites 'n pints nights almost every month, as well as several other similar get togethers.....if those are not to your liking, and you would rather a BBQ at someone's house (or something else), then why don't you plan one? If you want something to happen, you have to do something about it, it won't happen by itself.

As for the off topic threads and posts, everyone has the choice to read any given thread or not, and I couldn't have said it better than Jay already did:

Bottom line: I think you will find that the majority of people who fequent this section like it exactly the way it is, myself included. Change and evolution are inevitable, and resistance is futile!

My post is not meant to single out either Gary or Cathy, I am just responding to what you have posted.

anyone remember Bob - 67Heaven now he was an incredible resource for us C2 and C3 owners. Damn I used to hold get togethers up here in the early years as well - still remember telling Mike the pool was heated - I didn't lie just didn't tell him that I had turned the heater off a few weeks before. The wknd fevre came to stay from Ann Arbor and Jack took him up in his plane from Dunnville to Niagra Falls - Flav's off road adventrue upon leaving the airport and Wayne and I in tears at the Queens Hotel over it all. Funny thing was we weren't looking for friends or a regular once per week or even per month outing as we all had our own separate lives but friendships as well as the usual aquaintance(ships) occured. It truely was a guys morning or afternoon out originally and after 2 years that started changing where g/f and wives were coming along so the nod to change had already begun. I rarely tend to go to the events now as I just have no desire to drive the 400 series, QEW or downtown streets when I have the Forks of the Credit and Hockley Valley right at my doorstep. This past summer a few of the neighbours asked what ever happened to all those old vettes that used to rumble through the area I just laughed and said life. Now my new neighbour across from us has a 454 Chevelle SS in mint condition so I'm sure that we'll keep the Ferarri's and Lambo's looking over their shoulders as they cruise through Hockley.

Well I guess I'm still a new comer. I joined around this time last year after I ordered my car.
I don't think it matters what model Corvette you have, a vette is a vette (and the wave MUST be kept alive!)

I think this forum is great the way it is. It is winter, and almost nobody except for good ol Mark (Mr ICED capp) even drives their baby in the winter so thats why theres more off topic stuff. I have met alot of great people, and even though we may not always have everything in common, there's always the car. I remember my first ever vette meet, first car meet for me too, at Sherway Gardens, I didn't know what to expect, 'cus I din't know anybody, and only had my car a couple weeks. But everyone was cool and welcomed me, and that sticks in my mind.

There are lots of meets, and I hope to go to more of them this summer than I did last. And I like the idea of an UN club. I don't agree with the idea of paying a fee to be in a club. I think owning the car is the fee.

Once a Corvette guy (or chick) ALWAYS a Corvette guy!

And by the way...

....only 28 more days.....

You forgot about me, I drive mine all year round too!

Mine didn't like the -22C temps this morning though, the engine ran very rough when I started it, then it stalled twice, and then continued to run very rough for the first five minutes of my drive. It's never done that before.

maybe a little gasline anti-freeze at these temps may help Pat, just a thought.

It has been a few summers now since i have really driven the Vette any great distance or frequency...i need to do work to it but it is still driveable...now that i am in our new house i will have it in the garage this summer so will be driving it a little more, just not the way i would like to...
I have been regularly checking out this section but dont really feel apart of what's going on anymore since i stopped driving the Vette...hopefully i will start heading out to meet all of the new people that now get together..
Greg..i thought that your pool was a little bit chilly considering it was heated..needless to say i was half the man getting out that i was going into your pool..

Yep, it looks like the ethanol in Sunoco 94 isn't quite enough to stave off the moisture.

I took the car for a drive on my lunch hour and it ran beautifully, so hopefully that's all it was (a bit of moisture in the fuel system which froze)

I hope that the 69 comes together soon for you Mike as that is one beautiful beast! I still have a bloody dent in the back of my head from all that tq. thowing back against the seat and hitting my head on the ttop frame. Mike if I hold a get together up here you can take my vette for the run and I'll sit in the passenger seat - you've driven it before and although it isn't a BB it will still keep up even with the crappy Edel carb. I'll call Flav and Dwayne, hopefully Mark and Mike will bring their yellow verts, pull fevre out of Michigan again, Wayne will just simply put me to shame, Desi might have changed vettes by then, Jack will come, and we'll get Cathy back as well as 7t2, silvr and as many newer Cdn forum members as wish to be slowed down by us old fartz on the road to the Hockley Valley Brewery.
