Gary Bishop posted a frivilous link to Speed Bandits that I sent to another forum. He thought it was pretty funny and did not expect to be summarily "banned for life". It was certainly not pornography, simply and short video of something that was done publicly in Copehagen (they are not as hung up as we are, I guess).

In any event, Gary is very upset about he and his wife being banned by Grumpy for this "transgression" and cannot even get back on to appeal, so I am here to do so in his behalf. Gary is a long time member of the CF and is also a member of the NCRS, the NCM and is NCM Ambasador for Canada. He does not deserve to be tried and executed without even a warning.

Grumpy, please reconsider. Gary wishes to apologize to you, but of course, cannot get in to do so.

Hopefully, more of Gary's friends will come to his aid. He lives and breathes Corvettes.

I did not see what the link went to, but if it was deemed to be not suitable for the forum I understand that point of view and if such an action was done in open defiance that is one issue, however to be an honest mistake or lapse of judgement is another.

Who here hasn't made a mistake before....and never to be been forgiven for it?

I have never met Bish...but through the other guys I have met...he sounds like a stand up guy.

It did show nudity but it wasn't done in a pornographic way in my opinion.

If I recall correctly, Gary is one of the longest-standing members of this Forum (with a "member since" date of somewhere in 1999). He is also one of the most amiable and non-offensive guys you will ever meet, with a personal Corvette history and qualifications that none of us will ever match.

The Mods need to get a slightly thicker skin on this sort of rubbish, and exercise a bit of intelligent and informed discretion. The Forum is not such a fragile flower that it will wilt and die when a stupid link is posted.

Good job Paul, wish I'd thought about doing a thread. I've had a couple of messages back and forth with GRUMPY. I told him I thought the video was "cute, if not delightful", and a long shot from pronographic. His first response was, "cute and delightful isn't against forum rules.. links to nudity are, regardless of where you are in the world".

Then Gary sent me an apology for me to forward to GRUMPY which I did. I just received this reply, "here in Corvetteforum land it is against the rules and guidelines to post such links. I will restore his posting privileges based on his word".

Looks like the problem is solved. Thanks to everyone who posted in Gary's favor.

I don't know him or you for that matter, but if I may suggest taking this up with Grumpy using PM's.
You could end up being banned or at least a trip to banned camp for calling a Mod out.

Actually, Gary has been a CF member since about 1990, or so he tells me. Glad he's been reinstated!

I think the forum was started in 98 or 99, so Gary most likely is mistaken on that score. I have been here since mid 99 when it was a much smaller place. Anybody have the real start date for the CF?

I wondered about that date as well. Gary has been found innocent of **** posting, but he's guilty of Long Term Memory Loss when he wrote to me, "The page comes up that I am banned for life. No warning or discussion. I was a member on the forum since about 1990."

During your lifetime you meet very, very few people who are willing to help others in need and ask for nothing in return. Gary is one of those few. I can bet that there was no bad intent on his part when he posted that supposedly questionable link and I'm sure he's very happy to be back on the forum. To sum up what everyone else here has said, Gary is an asset to the forum and in my opinion an ambassador for Corvette.

I have known Gary Bishop personally for several years now and he has always been a terrific person and a perfect gentleman. He's always been there for me whenever I've had a question about my Corvettes and I value his knowledge and opinion greatly. I have never found Gary to be profane.

Unfortunately Gary's crime of a lifetime was that he just happened to forward something that was shared on another forum.

I think the moderator needs to cut Gary some slack!
