Default Mail-order from Summit?

Has anyone here ever mail-ordered parts from Summit? I have about $1500 worth of parts I need and I'm trying to decide if I should order them or drive to Ohio. If you've ordered and shipped via USPS, did you get dinged for Tax? I've bought many Ebay parts from the states and had them shipped up via USPS... I didn't have to pay taxes on 90% of them.

I don't know why anyone would buy parts from Canada...especially parts from the Dealer. Example: 12480127 valve covers: Summit $279US ($306CDN); local Chev dealer, $813CDN!!!!!!!!! When they quoted that, I laughed and said " you're funny, seriously, how much?".

I ordered from Summit and then drove down to Ohio in 1 day return to pick up parts. You will have to pay taxes at border though. Would do it again.

I bought my heads from Summit....
You will pay taxes and brokerage fees if you ship UPS.

I have paid just taxes using USPS many times

You could have them shipped to a UPS depot near the border and have them held for pick up and
just drive down and get your stuff.

It's up to you if you want to declare you stuff @ the border.

Hold for pickup at a depot..That's a great idea!! I'm going to take that route...

I ask my friend in US to buy under his name, then I bring them as gifts...no taxes on gifts

I had a wad of cash from some of my Ebay sales so I drove down to Summit on Saturday...about 5.5hrs each way. Stopped off at TMP on the way back to catch some racing action... 1200km total!

Summit is huge...it's like the Walmart of the automotive aftermarket stores. They had my order ready and waiting...not the most scenic drive but very few cops..did between 130 and 160 most of the way.

I think I'd only drive down again if I had the US cash and needed the parts ASAP...the hold for pickup option sounds like the best compromise.
