Default That First Vette Feeling

Its been a year and a half since I bought my first vette, the silver 99 targa, And I remember walking around the used car lot looking for a "normal car" when I spot this silver beauty staring at me.
The salesman sneaks up behind me and before I even new he was there he says "wanna take it for a test drive? " Me being 28 and looking younger than my age I say "sure, I guess it can't hurt".
My poker face was on but my inside voice was saying "this guy is actually gonna let me beat on this thing?". So from Humberview Chevy on Dundas we proceed west, towards the highway. Coincidence? maybe not. I think I hit about 200 or so before he said anything. He still seemed pretty calm, but I wasn't gonna buy it without a light to light test. After getting off the highway, the first red light I hit wouldn't you know it, I pull up to a yellow 2000ish lowered Mustang (I was gonna stuff it anyways).
I know its not fair but I told the salesman to "get ready". So he did and the second the light turned green(not even sure if the mustang noticed I was there) I stuffed it good, 1st,2nd, into 3rd and I was done......Sold!

I miss that feeling..........

Over 30 years ago when I bought mine, I have never even been for a ride in a vette, and I was just to young to even test drive one. It took 10 weeks to finally arrive and as you say 4GTABODT, I will never forget the first time I started it up. The song "Shaft" by Issac Hayes was playing on the radio, and awwww.......the smell of the leather. I put up the headlight because I couldn't judge the distance to the front end and it was the most enjoyable ride I had ever had in a car at that point in my life.

All the memories.

Great, the sales man knew what he had to do. Well, that not difficult…. Next thing you going to know is that you get the mod bug.

A white 76 corvette, L82 auto with red interior.

Dad drove me to the dealer and I drove home the car with the biggest simile on my face with my Dad driving behind me. I was short by $2000, and my Dad wrote the cheque and said enjoy it and don't tell Mom.

Great memory!

Bill.

Default 30 years seperating 1st Ride and 1st Drive....

I was 8 years old the first time I rode in a Vette, we were visiting one of my uncles in London, and he had a brand new Vette in the garage beside a slightly less-brand new Jag.

Well I guess I stood there long enough staring at the Vette and ignoring the Jag, that he finally offered to take me out for a ride...

I was hooked, and dreamed of one day owning my own. To pass the years, I built models, and raced Hot Wheels, and AFX slot cars...

30 years later, I placed my order for a brand new C6 around the end of Feburary, so it would be here by May... It was built April 27th, 2005, and the following three weeks seemed like the longest three weeks of my life waiting for the delivery... I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas... only the date seemed to keep moving!

Finally the big day arrives, and my dealer calls to tell me "The Eagle Has Landed Mark, Can you be here by 2:30P to pick it up?" (Is the Pope Catholic???)

I felt like I was going out on a first date, my palms were sweaty, couldn't string more than a couple of words together... you know the drill.... Finally, all the paper work is done, everyone in the dealership (and I mean every salesperson, technician, clerical, and Customers) were all outside looking at the car, and giving me some sort of advice ... about half an hour later, I finally tell them I have to leave! So Press the Ignition Button, and the V8 comes to life (Oh Boy!), I put her in gear an eased off the clutch, put the turn signal on, and ease out in to traffic, and then onto the 407.... I think just about every car that started to pass me (I was just trying to get use to the car, and keep it at or around 100 kph!) would slow down, look the car over, then give me a big smile, tumbs up, ect. I had the top down of course, but forgot the sunburn lotion, so I looked like a lobster by the time my first drive was over!

I made it back to my store in one piece, and my staff had converted my back staff parking area into a VIP parking zone with caution tape and the works! I'll post some pics of that day in my picture zone!

Wow, what a day... Will never forget it!

Great story CDN_Wolf_eh. 20 years from now you'll remember it as if it were today.
