Went to the Queensway show and shine last night and was hoping to meet some of you guys there.
Only one I got to meet was JETZ, spent a bit of time talking with him and admiring his Z06. Wow what a beauty he has there. Asked him a lot of questions about his ride and got a lot of good answers and sound advice.
What I couldn't believe, was that with all the mods that he has done, he was really quite p***ed off at the fact that his headlights popped up and down everytime the car was started in the garage or going into a tunnel or even just at dusk and he had no control of it.
Now, I know all C5 owners love their cars but they also realize that the C5 is the most attractive with the headlights in the down position. So, if you guys want to control when your headlights go on and off manually, here is the easiest and cheapest mod you can make to your C5.
Open the fuse box under the footrest on the passenger side and take out the relay fuse #44. You may need some long nosed pliers to get the fuse out. This will disarm the automatic headlights. This will not affect your driving lights or your fog lights from coming on in darkened situations, but you will have to put on and turn off your headlights manually. I did this to my vehicle within a month of owning the car and now three years later, no problems at all.
I have read other remedies for this problem but they all seem to require attaching resistors and fishing wiring through the dash, which is a lot too involved for me.
Hope this helps my fellow C5 friends.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try this tomorrow. When you mention "driving lights" do you mean the Daylight Running Lights, and do they still work after pulling the fuse?

Yeah, sorry, I meant Daytime Running Lights, and yes they do work, all functions work exactly the same way as before. Fog lights will come on when it gets dark, all gauge lights will still come on, only thing that won't happen is the headlights will not pop up.
Thanks for the great tip. I hate it when the lights go on when you don't want them to. Was going to do the resitor thing but this looks so much easier - going to try it asap.
Thanks again.

Are the fuse boxes different between the years? I went to do this today and the owners manual says that fuse #44 is a Mini-relay for the Rear defogger ( it was a large black relay as oppossed to the standard fuse ) so I left it alone. I have a 1998 model.

Reason: added year of car
I may not have a 300km/mph speedo on my American Zo6 ,but I don't have that darn daylight stuff, either.American cars don't need daytime lights. They must be better daytime drivers and therefore they don't require it. My 2001 vert, had that and they (daytime pop ups) went up and down so much ,the plastic gear in one wore out in 7,000 kms...gave me no other grief ...I sold it because the lights gave me a headache.I do miss the 300mph speedometer though. Thats he penalty for no daytime popup lights ...I guess.
