Default Is this a good price for a 2001 Z06?

I have had two recent serious offers for my 72, with the way gas prices are going, I have considered buying a C5 to replace it. Is this a good price?

Bruce, I can't believe you'd sell the 72, after all those years of ownership and hard work

You gotta good gig, keep the 72 and get a C5. BTW that does seem to be reasonable for the Z06.

I really don't want to sell the 72, but the gas mileage is horrible! I have also considered buying a 2nd vette, but I would then need to move to get a 2 car garage, I can just imagine how that would go over with my wife......"Tell me again why we are moving???" I think the only place I would be moving is into a bachelor apartment!!! Maybe now is the time to convert it to fuel injection!

after driving Samman's Z06, I'd sell and pick that black one up for $33 - 35k. I would have sold mine this year except I promised it to my son and he said that he still wanted it.

That seems like a good price for such a low mileage Z06.

Actually, its 7 years!

My wife told me this would happen. She said when I finished the car, I would get bored and look for a new project!

Bruce,

A couple of items. The 01's are 385 HP NOT 405! Lots of ring problems and burning oil issues. Also piston-slap issues on 01-02. Best years are 03-04!!

I wouldn't go with a 01-02. Pay a bit more and go with an 03 or 04 and get the warranty as well.

I've owned a 02,03, and now an 04. (z16). I know alot about the issues. The price looks good, but I would pass.

I think we'll see you in a C5z06 one day. Make it an 03-04!
-Bill.

Stupid move Bro. Don't do it. Why sell a perfect car for one that will only get worse over the next few years?

The only way I'd buy an '01 is if you were planning a H/C or a motor buildup. If your planning on keeping the motor together, definitely go with at least an '02, preferably a '03 or higher.

Don't do it Bruce, after all the work that went into your 72. It's not as though it is a daily driver.

You will regret it down the road.

I forgot about the ring problems the 01's had, thanks for reminding me guys! I guess I will pass on this one. I need to think about this more, like over the winter. I may end up putting a 6 speed and switching to fuel injection on the 72.

Check in with Wilson-Niblet. They keep the betterones for resale AND you get a warranty. Ask for Brian Hay.

If this is the real reason for wanting to make the change....you should
consider that the 72 will probably not drop in value,, and the newer
Vette will still be dropping in value. Even if it drops just another $10K
(that 10K could buy a lot of gas).

Also if you have to add about 5K to buy it...that plus the tax
on 5K, could buy a lot of gas.

...and the extra $1000 a year on insurance could buy "some" gas.

Also, you KNOW you're not going to get decent gas mileage with a C5 because your going to drive it hard AND probably a lot more than the C3.

So, it'll come out even in the end.
