Default Anyone replace their pillar post weatherstrip

That's the only part of the weatherstrip kit I really needed and I want to put it on but I want to know what is involved and if I need anything special like glue and where to get the glue. ALso there was something about a clip being riveted on or something ?

I did it, I don't know about later C3's, but early ones have the window blow out clip attached to the pillar post trim piece with a rivet, you don't need to remove this clip to put the weather strip in. You only need weather strip adhesive to attach it to the trim piece, then the trim with the weaterstrip attached is screwed onto the windshield frame. There is a sponge rubber seal that goes between the trim piece and windsield frame that is very important to replace to prevent leaks in this area. The only place I know that sells this seal is Doc Rebuild, part # 1069504 $6.30 a pair.

Thanks Bruce, can I ge the weatherstrip adhesive a Crappy Tire ?
Also my old pillar post pieces had a metal insert at the top inside the rubber itself and that was screwed to the frame to make the weatherstrip fit better at the top I assume, they new rubber dosen't have this piece embedded inside, did you run into this ?

Crappy Tire sells weatherstrip adhesive, but last time I checked, they only stock the yellow stuff. If you want black, go to NAPA, they stock black 3M there.

The pillar strips don't need much glue, they are mostly held in by the design of the trim piece itself. My replacement strips did not have the embedded metal insert either. You can probably do this job without removing the trim piece from the car, its just easier to do off the car. To do this job, the first thing you have to do is remove the outside windshield trim pieces. Then if you look in the old weatherstrip where the glass sits, you will find a couple of screws in there, remove them, and you can then remove the whole trim piece with the weatherstrip. Move it to your work area, and you will see what I mean about the weatherstrip being held mostly by the piece itself. It kind of sits in these two channels. You will see what I mean. Replace your weatherstrip, get those seals that go between the trim and winshield frame, screw it back on, and away you go! If you don't want to get those seals, I would run a bead of silicone instead, which is probably better anyways!

Thinking of ordering a complete kit too, this week.
$215 usd from Corvette Rubber and $8 shipping to a US address.

I was told Corvette Rubber makes a good product and the price seems right, compared to Ecklers.

That yellow adhesive I had in the parts cabinet, isn't that weather stripping adhesive? If so I can probably spare a few tubes........Is there an expiry date on those things?

Let me know

Romeo

I used 3M's adhesive remover # 08984, I bought it at NAPA. I think it was $20 for a liter. Works great to dissove all the old adhesive. It is in a metal container with a black label here in Canada

I think it was ... you could check against a mid america or zip catalogue for parts #'s. I'm not sure on the expiry date issue....
